In a race, the quickest runner can never overtake the slowest, since the pursuer must first reach the point whence the pursued started, so that the slower must always hold a lead.

I always thought that Zeno was mentally retarded. Is it just me or he is dumb as hell?

Yes yes he is. This is only true if the faster runner's speed decreases to some proportion relative to the distance between the two runners. If both runners are running at a constant (but nonequal) speed, then the faster runner will eventually cover more distance in X time than the slower runner. I suppose this is sort of a brain teaser for five year olds.

Doing a little reading on wikipedia... and yes I still maintain he's an idiot. Apparently he believed that all motion is an illusion. Let's see if he agrees with that when observing the motion of my foot swinging up in a vector intersecting with his testicles.

All of his paradox's are like that. He was trying to show that the world isn't real because of the absurdness of that. It's like the greek version of the chewbacca defense.

That's why it's called a paradox, durr

there is like a difference between a dumb paradox, which is just too retarded to believe, and an epic paradox, which happens to make sense.

the only philosophers who made any kind of sense was plato, socrates, mencius and conficius. all the other i know of are mentally retarded.

It really was a paradox, until mathematicians figured out that .9 + .09 + .009 + .0009 + ... = 1.
(.99999.... =1)

Sadly, some ATOTers out there are holding their heads, saying "it hurts!" when trying to comprehend Zeno's paradox.

(Yeah, I know, Zeno didn't really say that.)

To cutforscience: plato? socrates? (aristotle)? Morons.

Don't forget Napolean! He broke the most important rule of all.

Logic, particularly of the mathematical kind, isn't the strong suit of most people here. Plato, Socrates, Aristotle were all good philosophers for thier time and still are relevant today. Wrong in many cases, but still relevant. Cutforscience should not limit himself to only the classical philosophers. Kant, Hobbes, Locke, Aquinas, etc. were all good philosophers. To not read them when studying philosophy/ethics would be to severely limit your own horizons.

I read Kant, but metaphysics is stupid.

I didn't include Aristotle because he said that fire was made of triangles

You don't need mathematics to know that Zeno was a nutjob. Just saying.
