These were 799$ and up when they came out.

CC has them on the website for 449$ and open box units or returns in the stores for 379$ or less.

Its currently the best OTA HDTV reciever made in almost all respects except no firewire output. BY far best PQ, and new reception technology. 4th/5th generation tuner.

It also does QAM cable with no cable box and HD DirectTv if you want to subscribe.

You supposedly have to buy a DirectTV contract though existing DirectTV customers don't. Through the web site you have to agree to buy the contract for 150-199$. In the store I am hearing you can buy it w/o the contract if you can get the manager or sales rep to agree.

The funny thing is the bulk of these recievers sold, in brick and mortat and over the internet are just for HD broacast from regular channels, NOT DirectTv.

Its the lowest price I have ever seen for this unit anywhere by several hundred dollars.

Standard for cable HDTV. Broadcasting HDTV uses a different standard. So you can't buy a regular OTA HDTV STB and expect to use it later on your cable HDTV.
