I was able to get it to work in XP by manually selecting a driver.

Under PORTABLE DEVICES I selected the (Standard MTP-Compliant Device) driver and it worked after that. Like I said now I have to wait for the PC to shutdown before I unplug it or XP will crash. I have verified that no drivers were needed in Vista and I do not get a crash when I unplug it in Vista.

It appears that I have drag-n-drop ability in Vista now - when I first set it up, it didn't show up in explorer, and I also could see the pictures I had on the player. Now, all of a sudden it allows me to look at it like that.

It is simple actually. It depends on what version of Windows Media Player you have. The MTP drivers are tied to (comes with) WMP.

If you have WMP 10 the Creative Zen will allow a very limited drag and drop. That older MTP driver limits your access to use the Zen like a hard drive. It doesn't allow things like "cut" and buries some information away from the user.

If you have WMP 11 the Creative Zen works exactly like a HD. Windows still tries to manage it and warns you when you put "non-compatible" files into the Music folder. But you can make a new directory somewhere else and use that part has a HD.

I went back and did my research that day and reached the same conclusion - it all depends on WMP on your computer. As a recent convert from GOM to KMP, I didnt have WMP on any of my computers, oh well :)

The up/down touchpad button is still kinda hard to get used to, wish they just had regular push buttons instead. More importantly, I dont seem to be able to find a way to have my zen display some of the ID3 tag I got thru freedb/freedbtest.dyndns.org correctly. All of the files in question look flawless in foobar, so I am a bit frustrated. Kinda sux since creative players, unlike their iriver counterparts, do not support hierarchial sorting of files with folders (which deserves another pagelong rant on why they would pick sort-by-ID3 scheme in the first place, but oh well). If anyone knows how to deal with unicode/shift-js display issues, please let me know. TIA!

no. It's an internal propriatary battery, although they do sell a aftermarket "life extender", which is really a connector that you can put a AA battery in to kinda jusp start it again.

expensive though, i saw one at target for zens for like $30.

Got mine today...as others have said, it looks brand new. Box was sealed shut, everything in plastic..not a scratch or fingerprint..maybe they had a batch with bad firmware? and all they did was reload these refurbished ones...

I've had mine for about a week now, still haven't had a chance to open it. Here's a pic of how it's packaged. Same for everyone else?

Also, I'm thinking they may just be clearing these out, whether they're new or not and calling them refurbished just for warranty purposes. That way they only have to support the Sleek for 90 more days, and then forget about them forever. Possible?

That cat looks pissed! :p

Anyways, this is kinda weird... I bought 2 in the same order and they both came that way for me, in the stupid plastic stuff that's impossible to open... haha

I can tell that kitty's not pissed...he's just chillin'

i got that one as well, just yesterday.

seems new, but probably a refurb, the pic of the one in sealed hard plastic is more than likely NEW. everything in my box was def. new aside from possibly the actual mp3 player of course, LOOKS new tho. :)

I got the Wired Remote and the Leather case. The case is really nice and will protect the mp3 player really good and the Wires remote works just fine and dandy. Even allows me to switch from Radio to MP3's. The Leather case and the Remote both have clips on them which is cool too.

Just received my replacement unit from Creative. Now all they have to do is credit me back for the one I sent back to them. Anyway the new one works great. No problems yet. I didn't even have to reset it twice like I did the old one. We're giving one to Dad for father's day.

Good Afternoon All,
Long time no post. I received my Zen and like the others....like new condition. I have read concerns about drag and drop so here is what I have done so far. I am using Win XP sp2 OEM. When you put the installation disk for Zen in cancel setup if it auto runs. Pull up Windows Explorer(right click Start left click Explore) and open your CD Rom that has install disk in it (should say Creative). Click on the "MTP" folder to open it, click on the "Explorer" folder to open it and "Setup.exe" to install only the Zen explorer. With the Zen explorer installed you can drag and drop and create play list. Very easy. I have about 8Gb of Mp3's on my computer and I just selected my favorites and copy and pasted them into the Creative Zen's play list folder and named it. So now when I turn on my Zen and navigate to play list they are all there. Hope this helps.

This is because you have ID3 1.x and ID3 2.x tags at the same time. The Zen (and iPod) looks at ID3 2.x tags first. If there is none, then it will read your ID3 1.x tags. It makes sense, but if you are editing just the ID3 1.x tags, it will never work for you.

gspyer, thanks for your comments. With the tagging option in foobar changed to force ID3 2.x only, I nuked the existing tags on a select album and redid the tags using the same freedb server. With high hopes for improvement, I disconnected the cable and browsed through the list of songs uploaded only to find out now it wont display any tags at all for that particular album. Looks like I will have to spend some more time to figure this one out, seeing how there are yet other tracks that show up only part right (namely, it turns all the hyphens and several kanji characters into question marks lol). Dunno, maybe the player simply isnt shift-js friendly. Though I am quite sure it wont matter to 95% of people here, it really does matter to me a lot :(

Having spent more time with my zen, I would like to point out how fast the data transfer to the unit really is. Creative players always held a reputation of one of best sounding DAPs out there, and the sleek photo is obviously no exception there; it sounds really gorgeous, which I think matters more than most other things.
