Zen or iPod?

considering the price (269.99 for a 30 gb zen) i would go with the zen. all the reviews i read says it has better sound quality than the ipod and it is about the same size

Zen if you're looking for sound quality and price, iPod (newest generation) if you're looking for style, user interface, and expandability in terms of different modules (voice recording, card reading, etc)

Edit: I personally want a zen.

1st gen - you can be a DJ with the wheel that actually moves 😉

Seriously though, the 1st gen's are cheaper, and 'easier to fix' than the others, it costs a lot more to replace the wheel on the 2nd and 3rd gens. Check out ipodlounge.com for more info.

neither

ihp-100/ihp-120

better sound quality
lcd remote
fm tuner
ogg vorbis support
battery life is *twice* as long

here's a cnet review of it:
http://reviews.cnet.com/4505-6490_7-30571493.html?tag=prmo2

you'll notice it has the same rating as the 20 gig ipod, about same price.

and as for the zen... i dunno, maybe it's just me, but i don't like to buy stuff from a company that makes you wait in line just to download sound card drivers.

basically the only reasons that you would get an ipod over this, that i can think of is...

1. ignorance
2. ipod is a hair (really a hair) thinner
3. you have an aesthetic preference for the ipod (which is fine, it's a personal thing)
4. you value little things like the calendar on the ipod
5. you value a relatively large third-party accessory market

its bigger than both the ipod and zen

Going out on a limb, you could get a PDA, but you would have to put all the music on a memory card and update it often i suppose. Dont know if you would want that though

try ebay, or Best Buy and the like.

Ebay is good if you don't mind paying more than it's actually worth when you total in shipping. 3rd gen 15 gig at BB for $380 because I was impatient.

Anyway, iPod pwns all. I absolutely love mine.

yes, that's true, here are numbers for ipod and ihp-120:

height:

ipod: 4.1 inches
ihp-120: 4.1 inches

width:
ipod: 2.4 inches
ihp-120 2.4 inches

depth:

ipod: .62 inches
ihp120: .75 inches

so basically, ipod is .13 inches thinner than ihp-120, all other dimensions are equal. personally i feel the battery life alone is more than enough to overcome that .13 inches. 16 hours versus 8 hours.

both 5.6 ounces (i am only talking about the two 20 gig versions, i didn't bother doing the 10 gigs, and iriver doesn't have a 40 gig)

here is the specs page for the ihp-120

Zen

the IHP100/120 cost even more then teh ipods. fusk ogg support i dont use it anyway. im gonna get a 30 gig zen xtra soon cause its cheaper then the rest and sounds better. i dont care about the .5inch size diff

mmm .. i really hope they release part of the code, as mentioned from news.com. I hope some offers a hack that enabled mpc support. If that happens, im all over the ipod.

i also recommend iriver ihp-100 or 120. i currently own 10g 2nd gen ipod but i am going to get the iriver's hdd based mp3 player when i am buying a new one.
