Yes, that's called having no competition.
1T power is still up and you're probably gonna feel it.
So it's all for 1T, so 9700X might have lower MT perf than 7700X because it clocks so low at 88W compared to 142W 7700X that the IPC is completely negated?

None of the Z4 DT parts ever hit rated TDPs due to thermal limits.
142w on the 8c Raphael is a joke.
These things are tjmax-driven, like phone chips. Or Hamoa.
All that performance for 5mm^2 moar die area? Sign me tf up broski.

If those TDP numbers are true then it confirms that Zen 5 is excellent and AMD doesn't mind leaving a few percent of performance on the table to gain efficiency. Except for the 16 core that is the flagship anyway.

The cynic in me wonders if this will widen the gap between the 9700X and 9950X in games and that will push some gamers to go for the 9950X before the x3D parts launch in 6 months or so.

If we are hearing rumors correctly, the 9950x will be better in everything than the 7950x3d or 7800x3d in gaming.

So the X3D parts are going to be a mid cycle refresh before Zen 6. I mean if there is no competition then there is no reason not to slow play it and get people to double dip but it does not make me happy.
Bingo.
This year is new IP, next one is derivatives and midgen kickers.
Rinse, repeat.

no. CES is mobile stuff.
Wow, that's another ZEN5 product that skipped, right? Pretty sure the rumor was X3D at CES2025 for last few months.

Anyway, good thing imo. X3D is worth a geneeational uplift, so mid gen is the right spot for it to launch. ZEN4 was just early because Raptor was kinda strong in Gaming.
