Amazon was selling the 7950X for high 700 or low 800. They've been fudging the price on the 13900k for weeks now. I'll check in 5-8x a day on my mobile phone and it'll be scattering around. But it has been more steady at 625 the last week with the occasional price hike. idk what amazon uses metrics wise to auto change their pricing.

Its $695 right now, never seen it cheaper(at amazon). Amazon was my goto- but lately prices suck. Newegg has got my last 4 sales, except the 7950x on ebay,

Edit: and for those who keep hearing about 25 in stock or one cpu or another, there have been 120 sold in the last few days at antonline.

PCI-E Gen5 tracing is what pushes the price over the edge, I hear. When I looked up for AM5 board, B650E boards were more expensive than X670 (Non-E) boards.

They shouldn't be more expensive than the z790 boards then?

Well, I guess 574 is better than 599, but if you hate the egg, then my deal is the way to go for $25.

Mine came today, but have not had a chance to upgrade what I am typing on.

New 7950x build

So, I could not resist the $600 7950x from antonline, so number 3 ! It will be upgrading a 5950x on an x470 motherboard. Going to try to just plug it in and hope windows works good. 32 gig of 6000 CL30 EXPO memory (my 3rd set, they work so good !).

1# 7950x SP 115 = 5400/5300mhz max
2# 7950x SP 117 = 5500/5200mhz max (my old one)
3# 7950x SP 116 = 5450/5350mhz max (testing this one atm)

It can only be seen inside Asus bios:

Asus is trying to predict the silicon quality looking at the different pre-programmed (by amd) voltage requirements for a given clockspeed
Higher SP rating is better

Each core have its own value, average of those get calculated as a CCD average SP value and lastly these get added to CPU wide SP ranking.

In the case above:
CCD0 average SP value = 119
CCD1 average SP value = 114
Average CPU SP value = 116

Then its sadly not a option.. (i mistaken thought you had a hero MB)
Its only the high end Asus motherboards (both intel and amd) that shows this information.

The only other way to find "silicon quality" is a do manual OC and compared numbers against other CPU's of the same SKU, to find out if you have a good/high clocking sample..

MSI is also in the prosess in rolling out their own clone called "CPU Force", but only on Intel motherboards atm.

yes i've used a third party website to send me alerts over the last few years when the pandemic popped up. im not sure how well known it is but it's named after a specific desert animal. I'll hold off to the bf event on newegg, failing that i'll make a drive to a mc or buy from antononline.

no way I'm touching an intel system again. bloody ******* infernos they are. I just about tamed the systems I recently built for others. as you know mine can't be tamed at all even with a larger than average aio let alone a loop. intel's move back to a stim did nothing to help their chip wilfires.

Intel only makes sense if your electricity is cheap and you can delid.

Of Asus an Asrock, which vendor has more mature BIOSes right now? Or are they both good enough that it no longer matters? That is, have weird very long-lasting boot times etc been solved yet?

Both of them are comparable right now in my experience.

The initial POST is painfully looong (well over 1 minute)
What you need to do is have the latest available UEFI ready to be flashed. I suggest using integrated video for initial boot.
The boards out of the box have UEFIs with AGESA ComboAM5 1.0.0.1, but UEFIs with AGESA 1.0.0.3A are available (1.11 AS03 for Asrock, 0809 for Asus)

After latest BIOS has been reflashed, boot times will be shorter, but still longer than AM4.
Expect around 20 secs for POST.

I have ASUS boards for am4, only 3 asrock for am5, and all boot times are long. I don't flash unless I need to and since its stays running virtually forever, I don't care about boot times. I did an update at first on my 2 Taichi boards, that was due to memory issues, and that fixed them. Now running EXPO memory. (6000 CL30)

I also got a score of 116. Just upgraded to the new ROG X670E BIOS, 0805. Hopefully nothing explodes. Fortunately I remembered to disable wifi and bluetooth to keep the evil systemd at bay.

Inside the EU, VAT (sales tax) must always be pre-applied to any displayed prices. (As opposed to the US, where sales tax is typically on top of the displayed price.) IIRC VAT on computer parts is 19% in Germany. So, it's now $562 pre-tax, down from $738 previously.

And these are not so much a price cut, but black friday deals, which now run a whole week for some reason.

Ryzen 9 7950X + 32GB DDR5-6000 = $574
Ryzen 9 7900X + 32GB DDR5-6000 = $474
Ryzen 7 7700X + 32GB DDR5-6000 = $349

Insane how much of a discount over MSRP it is, in record time from debut. Obviously, at above pricing already selling out in many stores.

I don't have a Microcenter nearby so settled for the following:
Ryzen 7700X $339 (Newegg)
Team T-Force Vulcan 32GB DDR5-5600 CL36 $129.99 (Newegg)
Asus PRIME X670Extreme-PRO Wifi AM5 Motherboard $349.99 (B&H Photo, -$25 AMEX Promo)

I'm sacrificing 1% performance on the RAM kit for ~$100 savings versus current "best" memory. Figure there will be better and cheaper memory choices by the time I'm ready to upgrade to a X3D or Zen 5 chip.

G.Skill FlareX DDR4-3200 16GB Kit - $183.99 vs $129.99

2017 dollars = $939
In 2022 equivalent dollars (+21.58%): $1141

Versus my AM5 component cost: $819

Comparatively speaking, only the motherboard is a significant increase in unit cost thanks to the deflationary effect of technological advancement and economies of scale. Though to be fair PCIe 5.0 GPU + m.2 and double chipset would definitely add to the BoM.

The point of the illustration above is that other than motherboard cost, I'm paying much less of an early adopter tax this time around versus 2017. And we've doubled(+) the core count at the high end for equivalent money.
