I have a VF900 on a radeon X1900XTX and it is cooling things fine now. It was not initially, because the heat was being trapped between the video card and my sound card and I wasnt exhausting it properly (105C+). Only after I put a 120mm fan near the back of my card to create turbulance, and cause teh air to exhaust did I get a big drop in temperature. Now the hottest I have seen is 85C (titan quest) which is fine for these cards, oblivion doesnt break 80 and lost coast doesnt break 75.

Pretty much you will be fine if you have a way to exhaust the heat created by this card, however if your putting it into a small space and dont have a way of effectively removing the air from the X1900XTX, you could have some big problems. I really with the VF900 had a way to exhaust through the 2nd PCI slot it takes up.

So if I mount a 120mm fan at the side of my cabinet which blows at the GFXcard, then I should be safe?

hmmn - the test-results of the vf900 do differ verry much and not just a few report of temperatures above 100 °C... so my recomentation is the Arctic Cooling Accelero X2. I've mounted mine on a X1800 gto and I'm highly pleased about its working noise and cooling performance.

Hmmm... tough call. I've only been able to find one review of the VF900-CU where its tested on a 1900xtx and that one was a bit concerning. Allthough the review of the accelero X2 seems better. Although probably a bit more noisy.

What about games like oblivion or F.E.A.R? what are your temps there?

Do you use a lot of fans inside your cabinet or do you only use an exhaust fan?

Performance will probably be pretty close. The VF-900 has the advantage of being more compact/efficient, compatible with just about every card, and most likely quieter. The only thing I like about the Accelero vs. the 900 is the fact that the fan connects directly to the card's fan header.

Good point, cs source doesnt street the card at all so it doesnt heat up. I played halo for a bit and my temps barely rose over the idle temps. You need to play a current game that taxes the gpu a lot.

Btw heres my cooler, temps dont go over 60c.

The VF900 works a LOT better if you remove the slot cover just below the video card to allow some air to circulate. Just doing this dropped my video card temps by 5-6 C and it's a 7900gt so it would probably be even a bigger improvement with the X1900's.
