IGN article

Nintendo announced today a new promotion for their Gamecube console. But a new Gamecube, and get a bonus Zelda disc. Here's what it includes:

- The Legend of Zelda, the original 1987 game originally developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) that introduced Link, Zelda, Ganon and the magical world of Hyrule
- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, the 1988 NES adventure that combined exploration, action, magic and weapons
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the 1998 hit originally developed for the Nintendo 64 that let players travel through time, explore vast territories and solve puzzles, all in a 3D environment
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the 2000 sequel originally developed for the Nintendo 64 that let players don masks to transform into various characters, all while battling against the clock
- A playable demo of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the series' 2003 debut on the Nintendo GameCube that included cel-shaded visuals and unique facial animation in the richest, most expansive environment yet
- The disc will also feature a short retrospective history of the Zelda franchise and gameplay footage highlights from Wind Waker.

Pretty good deal if you ask me. Nothing beats the classic Legend of Zelda and Zelda II games. Plus the full games of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask?! Great stuff. The article also details how you can get this disc if you already own a Gamecube, but I think they should just sell the thing without you having to buy 2 new games or subscribing to their shotty magazine.

I was about to go out and get a gamecube, but I might wait till Nov. 17th.

On the other hand, the reason I was going to go get a gamecube was to buy MKDD and MP5...

Damn, I just might bite on this one. It's either this or the $69 pre-owned one with Mario Bros. Melee. But this sounds better.

I really wanted that but I don't want to take the risk of a faulty gamecube, which seems to happen a lot with those

Last week I found a Gamecube w/Mario Sunshine for $99. Reluctantly, the wife agreed to let me buy it. Got it and a few games.

Of course I havent got to play it except for about an hour in the last week because my wife is always playing Mario Sunshine. :|

BTW, how do GBA games look played through a gameboy player on the TV??

This is going to sound like a smart-ass response, but the games look the same as they do on the Advance, only bigger. They look fine, and I've heard nothing but praise about the Gameboy Player.

Using the component cable in progressive scan... Like crap. My damn TV forces widescreen mode for any progressive signal and the GB Player does not support widescreen despite the fact that it would minimize the border around the GBA screen. I love my GB Player though.

Another useful response:
The GBA's refresh rate does not really sync with any TV standard, and therefore flicker effects and such which normally simulated transparancy quite well look like flashing garbage. Luckilly, Nintendo included a "soft" setting on the menus which gets rid of this, but may interfere with other effects in other games. I've seen some where sharp is optimal, some where soft is necessary and some where normal solves both issues.

They are still making money of of it.

I was kinda hoping that the Four Swords for GC would be included. After all, it requires GBAs to play and it isn't exactly a big-budget game worth $50. I expected it to be a freebie or bonus of some kind. If they included with it, the GBA Four Swords on it's own game pak (Without Link to the Past) it would actually boost the popularity of the old Four Swords as well as the GBA Link to the Past port. "Now more people actually CAN set up a four player game" THEN I'd imagine it would be store-worthy, though a discount price would still seem to be the way to go ($39?).

Notably absent is The Ocarina of Time Master Quest, though I'm sure the NES Master Quest is available ;)
