Zebra Label Printer Problems

I'm having problems with a Zebra LP 2844 label printer connected to an XP Pro machine using the USB interface. Using the newest Zebra Universal Printer Drivers(version 5.004), the point-of-sale software prints sales labels in landscape mode and doesn't even print the barcode. I checked all of the software and printer driver settings to make sure the label size(2.25"x 1.25") was defined correctly. I called Zebra tech support and all they could suggest was to use a 3rd party driver by Seagull Scientific instead of the Zebra drivers.

I installed the Seagull drivers and they seemed to work better. I was able to get the printer to print a label correctly, but it always fed an extra label after printing the one correctly. I called the company that makes the point-of-sale software and we worked with the software and printer driver settings for about an hour, but could never figure out why the extra label always got printed. I did notice that the label print jobs in the print queue always said they were 2 page jobs when they should be 1 page jobs.

This label printer used to work fine. I changed the printer from using the parallel interface to using the USB interface a few days ago. I used the newest driver when I made the change. Someone also installed a new version of the point-of-sale software some day after I made the interface and driver change. They seem to think the label printer still worked after the interface change.

Anybody have any ideas about what I should try next?
