It's tonight, yeah? Will you be watching the shit show?

Should be easy to dunk on Donald, and Kamala showed she doesn't mind going attack dog mode back in 2020. Hope her handlers turn her loose instead of advising her to hold back. People legitimately worried about candidates being too divisive yet still willing to consider Trump a legitimate candidate are basically unreachable because their "standards" clearly differ for Democrats and Republicans.

I'll probably just wait for highlight clips tomorrow unless I'm really bored. Even then I probably won't be able to watch too much before getting irritated.

Yep, waiting for highlights. Or more likely, reading about it.

Normally with these "debates", the day after is "Team A claims they won! Team B claims they won!". The last one was quite a shock to wake up to the Biden doom and gloom over his performance.

As deranged and old as Trump is, I don't expect him to have a similar performance unfortunately. He'll meander and lie and blather like usual. His voice definitely is more old and tired than before but he seems to have infinite energy to do his favorite thing--talk about himself. With a side of his next favorite thing, talk shit about others (Harris). He won't talk about any policies other than tariffs-tariffs-tariffs and scary migrants, because that's as far as he gives a shit about policies.

I expect Harris will be competent and make a ton more sense, and probably try to land some punches back on the lying bully in the room when he goes after her. Which will likely mean tomorrow both sides saying they won the clown show and onward the election goes.

My wife wants to watch so she can see Kamala. I want to see her too but not enough to sit through listening to the former fucking moron in chief. I’ll probably play Elden Ring while she watches on her iPad next to me and get the highlights from her. Neither of our minds can be changed even if Trump is the most presidential ever and Harris says she’ll douse the world in nuclear hellfire.

Lol, can't wait for the media spin "he looked presidential" (they say for the 1,000,000th time, without any sense of irony)

I'll be at a debate watch party at a big bar and restaurant. I'll be surrounded by good progressive people, and lots of beer options.

They better let Kamala go after him a bit and not try to just be 'above it all' - that would be a huge mistake. But I need to see this because I have to believe that this will be good for our ticket.

I already know Kamala's positions, and ive heard Trump enough for one life time. He will spout the same crap he spouted way back against Hilary.

I doubt I’ll watch it other than some highlights later, but as I said in the “higher standard” thread..

Kamala, IF she wants to change the minds of the few remaining right-leaning “normal” voters HAS to come across as decisive and presidential with clear, concise talking points…not blather around, hem and haw, and stumble her way through the interview…and she MUST be prepared, not only for the Q & A portion of the debate, but for the disruptive Trump part as well.
If you remember, in an earlier Trump/Biden debate, even though the mics were muted, Trump wouldn’t shut up…constantly interjecting, trying to tlk over Biden, etc.

Just gonna read about it after the fact of read the play-by-play here on ATPN. I just hope Kamala wipes the floor with him. Get him mad, send him into a rage, and make him appear as unhinged as he truly is.

I imagine anything along the lines of "do you want a president who can't handle his 2020 election loss, was convicted of 34 felonies, and was found liable for sexual abuse" would make his head explode. But don't lead with that. That's gotta come midway through the debate so he's caught off guard

I want to just to see/hear KH, but I probably won't because I just can't stand to hear the orange turd spew. Most likely watch highlights, and read about it in the morning.

Agreed. And maybe 2 of the questions where he just pretends he’s Mitch McConnell

Nope, I watched one in 2020 and 2016. It’s been trump all over for almost 10 years. He’s going to just be himself and there’s no way I’m intentionally turning it on. GD conservatives for making that shithead their front man

As an enlightened person I will neither watch nor not watch for the purposes of this thread.

Instead, I will attempt to convey my feelings, having just answered thusly, as to the nature of the reflections that have arisen within me having read the answers so far given up to when I clicked reply.

I watch parts of some debates, but less than more. But this one, I want to see Trump put in his place, live, with a bunch of people cheering. He just better get embarrassed, which he should.

You can't embarass someone who has no shame.

Which is why this is a shit throwing contest and the only loser is Kamala no matter what happens.. it'll be echoed endlessly in the media tomorrow how Trump wiped the floor with her because they have to get back at her for no interviews.

Remember how that went the last time?

So temper your expectations for bumps in polls accordingly.

"cheering"

I thought there was no audience?

Actually surprised that they don't fully embrace the non-informational, gladiatorial entertainment of these clown shows by not having an audience if that is so. If they added an emoji counter from the audience (or hell from the public) it wouldn't surprise me.

And yep, these things are a pig wallow and when a pig acts as they know to (aka Trump) it's not going to suprise or worry anyone. Kamala is the only possible loser of this thing, unless Trump literally falls over or has a seizure.

If you are talking to someone who says that they are tuning in to these 2-minute-at-a-time zing fests to "learn more" or "find out policy" you know you are talking to a fool, or at best a very lazy person. Policy is out there, though with Trump you'd have to dig down to see the philosophy and beliefs of the people surrounding him (project 2025 is a good starting point), because he's said little. Interviews are out there, speeches are out there, their own websites have policy. The only reason to tune in to this shit is for the juvenile combat performance art.

I don't expect Trump to be embarrassed of anything. He can still get embarrassed to the world though. That's the ticket.

I'm going to my first debate watch party ever, that's the cheering I mean. It's at a big bar/restaurant with lots of TV's, being promoted by a local politician plus a local progressive group - I have a couple friends coming as well. There's lots of draught beer.

Turns out the local bar that's frequented by a lot of union folks will be showing it. Good for them, I got more useful ways to spend my time this evening :D

As long as it doesn't go the way the Joe debate did. In a little over 2 minutes, I switched off, because I knew that it was probably over for Joe and the Dems at that point.

I don't :D

But I know a solid core of the people who are going to be there, so it's a bit different.

My wife and I will be watching.

Id like her to come out with an opening statement such as:

"Before we get started, I have a few things to say about my opponent and what he’s going to say here in this debate. The problem with debating Donald Trump, or even just listening to him, is that 95% of the things he says are lies. So, the moderators and I don’t have a chance of catching all the lies he’s going to spout tonight, much less correcting them.

So for the rest of the night I’m just going to ignore all of Donald’s lies, and focus on what Tim Walz and my administration are going to do to improve the lives of all Americans. I’m going to present a positive and optimistic view of the future of America. Donald is not going to do that. He’s going to do his best to make you afraid. Donald’s going to say that crime was up under the Biden administration. He’s going to say that Joe Biden was the worst president in history. But he won’t say why. Both lies.

Like a schoolyard bully, Donald’s going to insult me and other Democrats and call us childish names, because he hasn’t got anything substantial to say against us. Will Donald say anything positive tonight about his plans for the future? I doubt it. What he won’t talk about is Project 2025, a nightmarish plan to take the United States back to the middle ages. Or his stance on Abortion. Don’t believe him if he says he knows nothing about Project 2025. His running mate literally wrote the foreword to the book. Ladies and gentlemen: American democracy is on trial here today.

Finally, let me point out that on this stage there is only one convicted felon and one adjudicated rapist."

Or, she could just come out with this playing, lol!

🎵Don’t call it a comeback I been here for years🎵
I’m Rockin’ my peers Puttin’ suckers in fear
Makin’ the tears rain down like a monsoon
Listen to the bass go boom
Explosions, overpowerin’
Over the competition, I’m towerin’
Records shock When I drop
these lyrics That’ll make you call the cops
Don’t you dare stare
You betta move Don’t ever compare
me to the rest They’ll all get sliced and diced
Competition’s payin’ the price

I’m gonna knock you out
Mama said knock you out
I’m gonna knock you out
Mama said knock you out
I’m gonna knock you out
Mama said knock you out
I’m gonna knock you out
🎵Mama said knock you out🎵
