Hey all-

I am interested in these two handhelds and these two handhelds alone, therefore please do not try to sell me on anything but these :)

The Zaurus (running Linux) and the Sony Clie PEG-T665C (running PalmOS)

Anyway, I like the feature sets on these two, but I cannot decide which to get. They are both $399.99 MSRP, so price does not matter. They both also have a good MP3 player, so that is not an issue. Now, the Zaurus has the fold-out keyboard, CF and SD slots and has an optional 802.11b CF adapter. But, the Sony runs PalmOS, which is what I have been using for quite sometime now (I have a PalmIIIc and a Handspring Visor Neo), therefore I'm familiar with it, it has tons of apps and I have my contacts in the PalmOS, and the screen is just slightly higher resolution than the Zaurus in one direction (320x320 as opposed to 240x320). But, it does not have a keyboard nor does it have an 802.11b accessory card and it uses Sony memory sticks.

There are a lot of other small good things and bad things for each, but they really don't matter a whole lot I don't think.

So, my question is, which should I get? Specifically why? Do have experience with either? And, of course, any tips, tricks, suggestions, etc. for both are much appreciated.

Thanks all! :D

Edit: Here are some more specs on the Sharp Zaurus: HERE

I have a lot of people telling me to get the Zaurus.... anyone have any opinions? I would really like to be able to use the wireless on it which is really one of the main reasons I'd buy a new PDA since I've only had the IIIc about a year now. With the wireless I can use email, Opera web browser, mp3's from my server, IM, etc. from anywhere around my house. Would be pretty sweet....

zaurus does have cool factor, but i have heard the OS is not as polished as palmos. i have no idea if this is true or not, it's just what i've heard.

Zaurus! The Sony is just an organizer. I almost got a monochrome Sony, but found a Cassiopeia E125 with a keyboard on eBay for $204.

I'll be the nay sayer. Go for the Sony PEG-T665C. Zaurus isn't too popular... That and it'll be a pain in the @ss to find accessories and stuff...

OH yeah and $399.99 MSRP for teh Sony?!!! You sure abou that? I thought you can find it at only local retail store for aroudn $300.

Gr1mL0cK: Thanks for having a differing opinion here :) I knew things were too easy... ;) You make a good point, although the accessories that I am personally interested in are easier to get and in at least one case only exist for the Zaurus and not for the Clie (the 802.11b card).

Thanks again!!

Okay did a little looking and it does like its $399.99 MSRP. Wow. But Best Buy does even have it cheaper than that, and I'm sure through coupons/deals/promos it could reach the low $300's. I dunno, I find Sony PDA to be nice looking and having lots of support. You can find tons of accessories and software for it easily... The jog dial button is nice, and the built in keyboard for teh Zaurus doesnt interest me as I would have to type with the tiny buttons holding it like a Gameboy or something. But it's all preference I guess...

Actually I would get a Toshiba or Audiovox instead. You can get keyboards for those I believe, so they can replace a laptop. There are no keyboards for the Zaurus.

The Sony also comes with a program called Remote Commander - which you can use to control your tv/vcr/dvd etc. Its useful if you lose your remote. Plus, its probably easier to get more software for it too.

i would also go for a sony (or toshiba/audiovox) because of the whole OS thing. Palm and pocketPC are just dominating.. and probably easier to find things. And yeah, i wish more had wifi.. built in preferably.. and $200 :) but yeah, that whole market share thing really hurts the sharp.

Zaurus. I just LOOOOVE the keyboard :)! Sure you can get add-on keyboards to other PDA's, but having it built in is a big plus! You can just whip it out and start typing. External keybaords make the device less mobile (isn't that the whole point of having these devices? To be mobile?) and if you want to use 'em, you need to set 'em up first. With the Zaurus, you just slide the keyboard open, and start typing.

<==== Was spoiled by the internal keyboard in his Psion Revo :p
