I recognize that case - tons of others out there that are the same basic shape in case anyone wants to try their own. Zap, If you get a chance take a ruler to the PSU space and see how deep of a PSU might fit. I've seen a 460W 2U PSU that might fit that space, but it's about 8" deep. Thinking I might grab one for the next time I build a compact like that. Good job on the mod!

Another good job by you Zap.

Zepper, I don't think a 2U PSU is going to fit because of the 8inch depth may butt up against the HD's. But , I wonder if you can get some 90degree molex adapters to angle out the cabling to give a few mm or so space to leverage out the space.

I need to look at more pix of the unit. Make sure where the wire bundle exits the PSU case etc. Yes, rt. angle Molex connectors might help. But it will be the inside depth of the case that will be the important factor. I will probably have to choose the case based on that measurement only, but few of them are much more than 15" deep. And hard drives are 6" deep with a standard IDE connector plugged in. Perhaps I'll just remove the HD cages and use notebook drives... :)

GAR - I had a nice long post in reply and... lost the contents. Okay, the short, short version:

Yes, there are a lot of cases with the same basic layout such as ones made by Athenatech, Powmax, etc. However, mine is made of aluminum. :D

Entire case from front to back is 14.5". Not counting the plastic face, 13". From the end of the 3½" drive bays to the back, 8". The HDD sits on a slide out tray which sticks out ½" beyond the drive bays, so 7.5" from the tray to back of case. The HDD sticks out even more, so from back of installed HDD to back of case is 6.75", and that's not counting room for cabling.

The newest versions of the Enermax 270W SFX PSU puts out 20A on +12v. The Fortron 300W SFX PSU that I have in my other, identical case has dual rails with 8A and 14.5A. Both run about $40 or so and have 20+4 pin power for motherboard, but no PCI-E 6 pin. They are a good choice for all but a massively overpowered machine.
