So I did something real stupid. I got a nice HSF for my cpu to see how far I could push it, since it was running fine at 2800 but getting a little hot. So, I pulled off the stock HSF and put on a new one. In doing so, I got a little sloppy and managed to get some thermal paste on the pins. Didn't notice, put the cpu in, no boot. Cleaned it off with alcohol, still no boot. So, I assume I killed it. Considering all the stupid things I've done before, I suppose I'm very lucky this is the first time I actually managed to kill a component.
Anywho, the question: I just bought a new cpu from a member, is it safe to use the same mobo? I cleaned the socket best I could with a toothbrush and alcohol. And how likely is it that I killed the mobo as well?
