Zalman vs. Thermaltake cooler for AMD?

Hello, I'm new to the forum, I'm liking all that I've read so far and thought I'd ask a question:

I was looking for a cooler for my cpu (Athlon XP 2500+ Barton), I've got it oc'd to 3200...
The choices I've narrowed it down to are the Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu or the Thermaltake Silent Tower CL-P0025 ...
Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks,

Hi and welcome to the Forums!

You should buy the Zalman as the Silent Tower can't really compete with the best hsfs (of which the Zalman is one). Get the AlCu version, it's been proven that the Cu Version doesn't perform any better. Just make sure your motherboard has four mounting holes around the socket and that the Zalman is compatible (check Zalman's website about that).

Another vote for Zalman.

I had a Thermaltake Volcano 9 for who knows how long. All I remember was having a loud fan and hot temps. I switched out to the AlCu Zalman and everything is cooler and quieter.

Thxs for the welcome 🙂
I was actually leaning towards the Silent Tower because it is nice and quiet, and from the reviews I've read it competes very well with any normal (louder) hsf cooler... I do like the Zalman AlCu thou because its lighter, the reviews I've seen for it look decent too...
Keep the input coming guys, I appreciate it greatly 🙂

Um...

If you're overclocking, you should actually look at the Thermalright HSF.

The Zalman is a great HSF.

Just not for OC'ing (so says most reviews, anyways).

I was looking for a quiet fan... hence I narrowed it down to these two fans... 🙂
Most of the reviews I've seen on the Silent Tower have been great even for oc'd systems, I haven't been able to find many on the AlCu Zalman other than comparing it to the Cu Zalman...
I'm trying to decide between these two fans, good fans are hard to come by around here, lol... 😉

The Zalman by far. The AlCu version performs the same as the all copper and is cheaper and lighter.

There's a good review at silentpcreview.com comparing the Zalman AlCu and the Cu version and they come to the conclusion that there is no performance difference.

The Thermaltake might be good compared to the retail AMD hsf, but it's just not good comapred to good heatsinks like the Zalman.

I'd suggest a Thermalright SI 97 for socket A, it's the same design as the XP 90 but for socket A, prolly the best socket A HS/cooler money can buy at this point IMHO
