I own an evga 7900gt co superclock.
With the stock cooler I was idling at 48C...and after installing 2 additional harddrives.. It idled at 50C -.-;
Under full load that beast scorched its way up to 74C
I didn't feel comfortable with that so I purchased a Zalman VF900.
Installation seemed simple. too simple.. infact it was as I installed the thing sideways preventing me from getting it into the motherboard. A 4 minute time waster... pff friggen zalman why couldn't you hold my hand through this process?
those bastards.
anyway....
upon installing this card after mounting the zalman correctly... i hit the power switch on the front of my computer and nothing happens.....
oh i forgot to flip the main power switch...duh.....
As you can see I was abit overzealous in getting this thing in as fast as possible to see my results.
Anyway after correcting my final mistake I booted up the computer and opened nvidia temp logger.
35C.
I say hey thats a nice change from 50!
but ofcourse idle temps dont mean a whole lot...the real test is rthdribl.
This program gets my gpu hotter than anything else...
So after running it for 1 hour I came back from lunch to see a dissappointing 47C temperature. I was really shooting for 0C but I suppose I can settle with 47C instead of 74.
er wait i wasn't dissappointed at all... the full load temperature under the zalman was less than the idle temperature of the stock cooler.
maybe it was all arctic silver 5's doing...
yeah must be...er wait no that stuff will start to kick in..in 2 weeks.
*applauds zalman*
to simplify my experience... here is the results in a simple to compair format.
Stock Cooler (idle) Zalman VF900 (idle) ------ difference
50C - 35C = 15C
Stock Cooler (full load) Zalman VF900 (FL) ..... difference
74C - 47C = 27C
any questions?
