Zalman VF900, my experience

I?d earlier asked about installing a VF900 on my 7900GT. Well- now the deed is done and I must say I am very impressed.

Installation was incredibly easy.

Prior to installation my temperatures were in the 60-70c range. Now, according to the Nvidia monitor, temperatures range form ~35c (idle) to ~48c (playing CS:S for an hour or so).

Varying the fan settings doesn?t seem to change the temperature much (maybe 1-2c).

The change in noise output is quite marked.

Prior to installation the sound of the fan was excessive- to the point where I stopped using my new PC and went back to my old one. I was even looking at replacing the 7900GT with a passively cooled 7600GS.

After installation I can barely hear the GPU fan (even on the highest setting).

The only exception being that the fan occasionally produces a slight ?clipping? sound which I can stop by altering the position of the fan cable. This is probably just a balancing issue.

Now my CPU cooler (Intel stock) is the loudest component but it certainly isn?t an issue.

I don?t have any experience with other GPU coolers but from my perspective the VF900 was money well spent.
