Zalman vf700Cu

Hey guys

I was thinking about buying a vf700Cu for my current video card, but before I go through the installation process I would like to get a heads up on a few things.

1. What can I use to take off the thermal paste on the gpu (from the stock cooler)
2. Can the zalman plug in directly to the video card, or does it have to use the 4 pin multi connector?

Thanks!!!

1. Use some solvent like isopropyl alcohol to clean off the core. It's not hard, but it takes a while and it can get messy.
2. The zalman does not plug into the card. I plugged mine into the mobo, but it also comes with a 4 pin adapter that lets you select between 2 fan speeds.

I prefer to use Goof Off. It works a lot better than alcohol, but can be dangerous to your board if you are not careful.

Is that the stuff that gets off like sticky glue and tape and such? Why would you want to use that. Isopropyl alcohol works great and is less risky. I dont see the point.

IIRC, it contains acetone, which is much more efficient at removing TIM than alcohol. Alcohol works fine, but it takes longer to get a clean surface. *shrug*

If you are in the USA, you can find acetone at your local auto parts store ( like AutoZone, Advance, etc. ) in the area where they sell paint supplies. It is usually $5 for a 32 ounce ( ~1 litre ) can -- which should last you a decade.

Don't let it get on anything plastic. :Q
