You suppose it would be safe for my 6800 to just not install the memory heatsinks that are included with the Zalman? Surely, the memory modules will be getting plenty of air blowing across them anyway.

just air blowing across them sometimes isnt enough. thats why we have heatsinks to absorb the heat and distrubite it and have a fan to cool it off. but i dont think the ram will get that hot anyway. but why wouldnt you wanna put them on anyway for better performance and longevity?

Basically, I dont wanna put them on because I am not a fan of thermal tape and its potential to fall off while hanging upside down in my case. I am not sure if this is just me worrying about something silly, but a ramsink falling off cant be good:(

When taped on, if the surface is dry they won't fall off anytime soon as long as you apply enough pressure to them at first.
You could also leave them nekkid.

I guess having them fall off can't be any worse than not putting them on at all though...

ramsinks are for the most part purely decorational on GDDR3 ram since it dosent generate that much heat to behin with, and most heat comes not from the top of the memory but from the pins.

so even if lets say it did fall off, which it most likely wont, what does that matter to anything? it will simply fall down onto the bottom of the case until you realise it fell off. just make sure the clean the ram with isopropal alcholol, highest percentage you have, let it dry, stick em on and forget about em. theres no harm in sticking a heatsink to the ram sticks. or, u could just send em to me so i could stick em randomly all over stuff in my comp :)

LOL!

I think they are telling you that nothing will go wrong with the Video card if the sink falls off, not thinking about the other components (like the PCI cards) in the case that can definitely be harmed by a piece of conductive material falling on them.

THANK YOU^

and it wont fall off, stop being so paranoid about it. clean it well, stick it on, forget about it. but if you REALLY dont wanna do it after all the advice from everyone, then just dont do it. it doesnt matter to me or anybody else except you.
