Also, is the stock cooler really that loud on the 7800 GTX? Is putting the Zalman on really worth it?

This is the wrong site to ask that question. Usually this type of question ends up in a troll fest as somebody says yes and than a couple of regulars perceive this as an insult to Nvidia - so turn it into a personal insult contest. Try a silent pc site. :D

i ordered on last nite so i'll let you know.

the stock cooler on my evga isn't that loud but i'd like to lower the temps a bit if possible. not bad @ ~80c but it raised my chipset temp a bit.

ok, put mine in.

one thing to note is you'll need an extra ram sink unless you want to look at using the (thin) stock back plate sink. unlike the 6800's, the 7800 has rams on both side of the card, 5 on the core side and 4 on the back. i had an extra few left over from previous zalmans so no problem for me. i guess you could just put the stock one on the back.

stock / vf700
idle- 52c / 46c
load- 82c / 73c

chipset temp for those who have nf4s sitting under/near the 16x pci-e has fallen from ~51c to 46c load.

this is running rthdribl for 30 minutes while folding.

How difficult was it? What did you use to stick the Ram sinks on?

Biggest question, by the looks of it, can you still add another video card with that cooler on? That really depends on what motheboard your using also, which mother board are you using? The Asus boards give the most space, which is what I have. I'm very interested in getting this cooler, but also want to keep my SLi option available for a later time. Any help on this would be great

its not difficult and the ram sinks come with with the adhesive tim tape so just peel and stick.

they work on sli'd 6800gts so i can't imagine they wouldn't on the 7800's. i have the dfi sli-dr and while i don't use sli, i know people at dfi.street and such have sli'd 6800's with the zalmans on both.

i would guess the only thing you might need to do is to use a different back plate brace as the zalman brace sticks up a bit on the back. i think the stock brace would be fine.

if you check out zalmans sit you'll see what i'm talking about. but it will work.

Just did a search on DFI-Street, and now I know what you mean about the backplate. Yea I agree, the stock backplate should work, hopefully
