I desperately need to get a new heatsink/fan combo because my eVGA 6800GT heats up during the day to around 70 degrees C. Right now it's idling around 67. During the day it idles around 70 degrees. My computer sometimes will randomly freeze up, the only thing I can do is a hard reset. I believe it's the graphics that is freezing up due to it overheating.

I have never attempted to install a heatsink/fan combo onto a video card however I've done many heatsink/fan installs for processors. Can anyone tell me what kind of task I'm going to be taking on? What about temps, should I see my temps fall drastically or will I see moderate temp drops?

On a scale of 1-10 I'd say it would be a 4-6. It really isn't that hard. Just take your time and follow the directions and use common sense.

Also, remember GRAIN OF FVCK'N RICE!!!!!! <-HS Compound

i would say 3-4, the instruction manual is easy to follow. also, zalman's website has a nice installation movie here. i do recommend you to see this before starting to assemble the cooler

I'd put it even lower, like a 2. The hardest part is actually removing the stock cooler and cleaning off all that thermal goo that was applied in generous portions and sticks to everything it touches. Once you got a clean gpu installing the zalman is easy, just follow the directions.

I just installed the AlCu model last week on my eVGA 7800GT, and would say its a 3. Nothing hard about it, takes a little bit of time but thats about it. I spent the most time cleaning the stock thermal goo off the memory and core.

Although I never checked my temps beforehand, I run around 65-66 deg C under a good load now.

i rate it 1

it was harder getting the damn leadtek heatsink off mine....had to go out an buy a small screw driver for some of the tiny screws they used on the shroud.
