So I just got my Zalman VF700 full copper heatsink today and I plan to mount it on my Asus Extreme N6600GT. I did some research before buying and it said it was fully compatible with 6600 series cards.. but now I see on the retail package it says it isn't compatible with Matrox cards and Nvidia PCX vga cards... what does that mean ??? By PCX they mean pci-express right? and Nvidia.. ? do they only mean brand name nvidias... or are they just saying this because they don't want to support these cards... Before I open up the package... is it or is it not compatible???

thx

PCX <> PCI-e

Don't worry it should fit. I installed an AlCu one on a Leadtek 6600GT PCI-e before and it worked flawlessly.

Without having the Asus card you are using to look at, I hesitate to say for certain, but I think the problem is with some of the early PCIe cards from Nvidia, which were based on the 5000 series.

I mounted the VF700 on a XFX 6600GT PCIe card; so, I'd say you should be ok. Look to see if you have the mounting holes on your card like those shown in the examples on Zalman's webite. Zalman's lists of compatible and incompatible cards don't indicate any problems with the PCIe versions of the 6600GT (though it looks like it may not work on some of the AGP 6600 cards that use the "bridge" chip).

cool.. i also just went to zalman's website and looked up the compatibility list and it showed that all 6600 GT PCI-E cards would fit.. it's only the agp version that fits but is problematic as well.

on a side note.. i've been reading a few threads that recommend using better paste then the normal thermal paste it comes with. such as artic silver or ceramic paste?

what do you guys think? I do plan to overclock but not crazily or anything.. just want to take it slow and make it run better.. but at the same time i like buying the best quality parts and i figure i should probably dish out a couple more bucks and get good paste.

where can i buy good paste / ceramic paste that would ship to canada.. or you think radio shack or future shop might have some? and what paste do you recommend.. i know some pastes are more conductive.. but i don't really know if that's good or not. advice is most appreciated!

I use AS5 on my X800XL. I bought it originally for the CPU HSF. I doubt it makes any significant difference. The stock grease that it comes with should be fine.
