Zalman VF3000F GPU cooler question

I am thinking about getting an aftermarket cooler for my GTX470 and i found the Zalman VF3000, and i think thats the one im going to get because it has better vrm and memory cooling then other counter parts. However, I have a question about fan control. Can you connect the fans the GPU and control the fans in Afterburner rather then with the fanmate fan controller that comes with it??

No. I have one of those on one of my 470s, and the fans are not PWM fans that is required to be able to connect them to the graphics card and control them. It is just a 3 pin fan connector. I dont even bother with the fanmate, I hooked the fan up to +5V and ground, which keeps the card at decent temperatures and silent, running about half speed.
