Zalman Reserator 1

Recently I've been noticing my cpu temps creeping upwards and wondered why. Well this morning I decided to open up the case and see what I could see, and my culprit was one I had been expecting - just not so soon.

The Zalman 7000 is an awesome cooler, no question. BUT, all those itty-bitty fins attract dust, etc, to an amazing degree. As I said, I had been expecting to have to blow those things out but not in such a short time. The Antec P160 case has a nice little filter at the intake point that I had hoped would extend the time I could go between hunting the dust bunnies 🙂

So after blowing the dust out this morning, my temps dropped 5C right away, which was a good thing, but that made me think: I'm gonna have to do this every couple of months - what a drag. As it happens, my home is what might called a "high airborne particulate environment", since I have 4 cats 🙂 Even with the filter (which needed blowing out as well), it has only been a few months since I assembled this beast.

Which brings me to my question about the Zalman Reserator 1. I've read some online reviews and it seems to be a perfect solution for me: internal pump, convection cooled, no fans to make noise, no seperate radiator and resevoir to mess with. Totally self contained.

The reviews I've found online seem mostly positive. I'm not an OC'er or anything, so I don't need extreme cooling performance.

Any thoughts from the good folks out there? I'm particularly interested in opinions from current/past users of said system.

Thanx!
