zalman passive northbridge cooler?

The zalman, desite is not having a fan, will probably cool slightly better. My temps went down by 5*c by replacing the fan on my KT7A-RAID with a Zalman Northbridge HS.

For some reason I am thinking I heard of clearance issues between the Zalman, your board, and the SLK800, but I am tired and could be way off. Someone else can answer that better.

I have a slk-800 and the only problems between the two HS`s are that the clips on the slk-800 actually interfere with the zalman, ie, the clips are in between the fins, but that can be fixed by rotating the zalman slightly and moving the position of the clips slightly as well. But i think that, thats just my mobo.

Nope, the Zalman fits fine with room to spare with my SLK-800 on my NF7-S. Get some shuteye 😀

I slapped a 40mm fan on it using 1-1/4" self-tapping screws because I'm overvolting the VDD (1.9v) though. It's the black Zalman that comes without pins so usually the stock mobo pins are used but the NF7-S pins are horrible and don't fully engage with the Zalman so I used some 4/40 nylon nuts and bolts.

Working fine 🙂

The only difference between the Black and the Gold coloured ones, are the colour, which makes very little difference to the cooling propeties of the HS.

Go for it. I don't know about clearance issues, but it works and works well. The mounting mechanism for it is a PITA, but it does let you deal with things close to the northbridge a bit better. I have one on my GF4 and have finally gotten one and used it on an actual mobo. At $12 shipped from Newegg (last I saw, anyway), it's a good deal. It won't quite give 100% coverage, but I believe it makes up for that very well.

Oh sure, I bet you're one of those people that thinks painting racing stipes on a car doesn't make it faster

I know. Ive got in many an arguement because of it. lol
You have to be really obvious to get accross the humor, which then defeats the object of sarcasm.

Incorrect (edit: the second part I agree with, thermal properties are the same, both anodized aluminum), the gold colored one has moveable arms for positioning the retention and comes with pins as well as thermal epoxy whereas the black one comes with just thermal epoxy, no pins, and the arms are stationary for a diagonal corner-to-corner setup. See the difference on this page.

I ment the thermal cooling differences.
But good of you to point that out anyway. I did`nt know that myself.

I used the gold ones on my 8rda's north and southbridge. Before putting them on I couldn't post at 200mhz. After It would post but not run stable. After modding the vdd to 1.76 it is pefectly stable at 200 and the heatsink is working great.

I guess the moral of the story is that they work great.

I just bought this heatsink and was going to install it last night. But I'm not sure how to remove the pushpins from the old heatsink. Just from looking at it, I'm guessing that I have to remove the entire motherboard so that I can release them from underneath. That would be a major hassel. Anyone else ever try to do with with an epox 8kha+ w/o having to take apart their whole system?

WTF are you on about?
Were on about mobo HS`s, not CPU ones.

Inability to convincingly convey sarcasm is the downfall of online discussion.

Although that was pretty obvious sarcasm...

How would I go about removing the NB HSF on the Aopen AK79G Max? It doesn't have any push pins, just that clip. I've tried pushing down and then to the side, but I don't want to apply too much pressure.

tin snips on the clip, then use thermal adhesive w/ the new NB cooler.
