I was looking to get a Sapphire 9800PRO and slap this baby on there...

ZALMAN Dual Heatpipe Noiseless VGA Cooler, Model "ZM80D-HP"

I don't know much about overclocking, but I just want something SILENT since I believe the OEM fan on the card might be a little loud.

Is this a little extreme or will it cool as well as the stock HSF?

Does anyone have this or have something similar?

Well, Sapphire is confident in the C version for passive operation (do you already have the 9800 Pro? If not, get the Ultimate and be done), and the D should cool even better.

Just have decent case airflow and you should be OK.

Have you looked into the VGA Silencer rev3 by Arctic Cooling? Installed one on my Radeon 9800 and it is awesome. It has an adjustable fan & HS that exhausts out the back. You give up a PCI slot but I think the Zalman also takes up the same amount of room. With the fan set to 'HI' you can't hear it over the other fans in my case (I have all low rpm fans).

I have an ati radeon 9800 pro. I cannot hear the video card over my cpu hsf, or my case fans. However I noticed that the video card does produce a lot of heat. I decided to go with water cooling, but before I was thinking about going with
this. It seems pretty much the same as the Zalman one you were looking at but this has a main fan for better cooling. Also it has a backup fan that is loud but dramatically increases performane. I've actually seem test results that show that without the backup fan it runs well and with the backup fan it does a really superb job. The main drawbacks are that it takes up space and the backup fan is loud.

I have the Thermaltake Giant 3 and its practically the same thing. I could run it and have run it with no fans on. Its better with a little airflow tho as passive cooling limits the overclock.

I have the Zalman ZM80C with optional Fan kit and use the low lead (5v) and can't hear it at all. I use it on a Sapphire 9800PRO and have had no problems since last year. I even use UV paint on it. It was a pain installing it the first time if I remember corectly. Pic's in sig.
