Zalman CPU fan

I was thinking of using my Zalman CNPS 9500 from a s939 for a new C2D build. But I read somewhere that the Zalman 7700 would be better for 775 CPU/mobos due to the preference for air to be blown directly onto the board and chipset......whereas the 9500 blows air out the back of the case because if its design.

Anyone know if this is true? Seems backwards to unload my 9500 and "downgrade" to a 7700 flower-style.

Thoughts/info/past experience? Much thanks.

Personally, I like the idea of the 9500 blowing the heat away and out the back of the case. But thats just me. The 9500 is one of the best for Conroe. One of the more expensive too. Although I never personally thought $50 for a hsf too much considering what its suppose to do. Again, thats just me. Scythe has one that does a little better cooling I hear. But its a bigger and heavier hsf which kinda worried me when I was making my selection. The FreezerPro 7 is supposed to be every bit as good as the 9500 but less expensive. Not quite as quiet though. Although the noise isnt a problem from what I hear. It was too new for me to try when I made my selection. Supposedly the best is the Tuniq Tower but production on them stopped due to factory mechanical problems.

Anyway, the 9500 is a good choice if you already have one. Just be sure to pull off the chipset heatsinks and apply AS5 and you should have some excellent temps whatever your final decision is.

Ah, pull off the chipset heatsinks? Will do. Never thought of that. My case has like 7 fans running LOL.

Yeah, the 9500 is on my AMD Manchester.....got it OC'd to 2.5 stable, low mid 30's idle, low 50's running Prime, give or take. Anyway, it is SILENT, even on high barely hear the slight "whooosh". I dig it.

Was just wondering about the 775 board though. I'd hate to lose the 9500 and have to go to something "old". I suppose if I wanted to be a cheap ah heck I could unload my 9500 to my buddy and use the stock HSF on the Allandale........

As far as the Conroe mobos go each mobo model seems to get varying ranges of temps. Same goes for which Conroe proc you use. So temps will depend on your processor and mobo choice. Thats why alot of people are pulling the chipset heatsinks off and putting AS5 on them. Especially with the ASUS mobos. Doing this has some people getting 10C less heat which is considerable when it comes to overclocking IMO.

Well, if you want good and cheap hsf check out that FreezerPro 7. Going for around $30 or so. Which is a great deal I think. I'm seriously thinking of using it in my next build. I confess I like the look of the 9500 though. Although looks aren't suppose to matter. The performance is certainly there. The rig in my sig is one sweetly quiet setup. I cant hear anything unless I put my ear up to that 250mm fan on the side of my case. And even then its very hard to hear.

Last I looked. About a week ago. They were $30. I just assumed demand ate up supply and forced prices up. I was using pricegrabber at the time. Perhaps they came back down in price?

I just realized.....with the Zalman 9500 not blowing air directly onto the Northbridge on the S3 board.....I have other fans in my case, but the 9500 is a bit of a beast and it may block air getting directly to the chips. Should I look at getting separate chipset heatsinks or fan?

If so, any suggestions?
