I got a Zalman CNPS9500 and an ASRock 939SLI32 motherboard and I'm trying to install the Zalman. The instructions say that I can just screw the metal bracket into the plastic frame around the CPU socket, but none of the provided screws are big enough to actually screw in.

Am I missing something here?

I don't think that'll work actually. The holes in the plastic retention clip are just slightly larger than the screws, but the holes in the motherboard are a lot wider. I don't think any of the included hardware is big enough to not fall through the motherboard hole.

What happened to simple heatsink installations like the Golden Orb?

This may be what you need if you want to use a cooler that does not mount as the retail AMD cooler does.

Take off the plastic retention frame on the front of the motherboard... the screws go through the metal retention of the 9500 and screw into the back retention frame on the mobo. Use the screws that were already there, otherwise if your's came with plastic clips rather then screws there is a seperate installation method included with the 9500 for that.

His motherboard does not have a back retention frame.

Mine doesn't have a back retention frame and the rentention bracket around the CPU socket didn't come with screws. The screws you're talking about are long, and only threaded near the very tip right? Mine didn't come with those. Even if I had those screws, the threaded part of the screw doesn't have anywhere to screw into.

The rentention bracket is just a black plastic piece held on by 4 gray, plastic pushpins.
