Zalman CNPS8700 is out

These sorts of cooler designs have continued interest for a number of reasons.

It remains to be seen whether the heatpipes added to this model -- otherwise similar to the older "copper-flower" designs -- bring its thermal resistance into line with the 9500, 9700, and coolers by other manufacturers (like ThermalRight, Sunbeam, Scythe, etc. -- as compared in the May 4 "update" on the TR Ultra-120-Extreme).

The old copper-flower designs had thermal resistances between 0.18 and 0.21 C/W -- indicating performance considerably below current heatpipe models. But the shape of the cooler has promise for certain types of ducting mods, provided the heatpipes boost performance to contemporary levels.

O M G.

54.99 for this POS? no offense, but thats a bit too expensive for this sink.

A TR120 will run you cheaper and most likely PWN this zalman out of the sky. And i know its space restraints, However i dont see how this wouldnt fit on a Qmicro.

And if your running a smaller SFF, well, Then you shouldnt be overclocking too heavily. And if you do, i could probably piece out a watercooling setup which would work in most SFF's for 120.

This unit would most likely beat a TR120 in cooling power.

Zalman needs to stop overcharging for there crap. There CPS9700 is horribly outdated, and there watercooling products are a serious joke. There new fan controler requires its own power plug which is also another joke.

The last great product zalman came out with is the VF900, which i absolutely love. Other then that, i dont think zalman is worth it anymore.

I wouldnt say the 8700 is crap (at least until I see proof via tests) but I agree Zalman has been overpricing their products in the last year or so.

sorry for bumping such an old thread..

but should i get a CNPS8700 or the NT version? (both are refurbished, and at 25 dollars shipped)
