I just ordered a ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU 120mm for my 6300. Currently the stock HSF is a good fan but I wanted something a bit more, now my question is: The Zalman 7700 worth it or should I just go buy one of those ugly looking heat pipe things?

I currently have my 6300 at 3ghz-3.4 really depending on how cold the ambient temp is without and hassel or struggle, I just want to go more with a better HSF. I hope I made the right choice *crosses fingers*

Heatpipes help ALOT -

I upgraded from a 7000b-ALcu to a XP-120 and there was a 12 degree difference in load temps.

I will personally only buy heatsinks that have heatpipes and separate fans from now on..

The difference between a 7700-cu and a u120 will be next to nothing. A few degrees at the most.

FrostyTech reviewed both the Zalman 7700Cu and the stock Intel cooler.

Zalman vs. Intel

The Zalman is better but it seems like it primary advantage is noise, the temps are not significantly lower.

Yeah, only about 10-15 degrees for a couple DBs louder. Next to nothing.

The 7700 really isn't a bad heatsink. I think you're exaggerating for dramatic effect, though I've never had a u120 so I can't say for sure. What I can say is I own both a 7700-cu and a scythe ninja... They read a difference of only 3c between them at 100% load. That's not a big deal in my book.
