Which is the best Heatsink for a P4 2.8C or 3.0C? Also, would anybody recommend adding a fan? I heard the YS-Tech 66.3CFM fan is a good choice. Here's my system below.

Motherboard: ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe
Processor: Intel P4 2.8C 800 or 3.0C-Retail
Case: Cooler Master Model# ATC-201B-BXT
Power Supply: Antec True480
RAM: Corsair XMS - 4x 512 pc-3500 w/platinum heat spreaders or regular black?
HD: 2x Raptors or 2x WDSE Raid 0, additional WDSE 4 b/u
DVD-RW: Sony DRU510A
DVD/CDRW: Samsung SM-352BRNS
Video Card:ATI AIW 9800 Pro
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum

I'm an athlon man, so it's hard for me to imagine going without a fan. 🙂 However, the thermalright slk 900u is prolly the best heatsink you could put in your system. For the fan, it all depends on how much noise you are willing to withstand. You'd get excellent cooling with that y.s. tech but the 40 decibels is more than i myself would like to deal with. If noise is an issue for you i'd reccomend one of the panaflo 90mm fans. They come in 43/48/57 cfm varieties with accompanying 28/30/35 dB volume levels. Hope this has been helpful.

Noise is definitely an issue, I'll go with one of the panaflo 90mm fans. Any particullar panaflo 90mm fan that you would reccomend, or does it matter?

well, the p4 runs heckalot cooler than any athlon. Depends on how much you wan to overclock your cpu. I have an alpha pal 8045 cooling my athlon 2500+ and i'm using the low speed panaflo and it works just fine. I'm able to overclock it from 1833mhz to over 2200, and it's my northbridge holding me back from going further. It also depends on what other cooling you have in your case. Any of those panaflos should suite your needs. The low speed is as silent as a standard 80mm case fan.

Not to change the subject about heatsinks, but what do you think about the stock fans in the coolermaster 201B I'm getting? I heard them come with 4 YS-Tech fans.

Look at my reply in your similar thread in the CPU forums.

Thanks RalfHutter - I didn't get a chance to get back to that thread. Sometimes It makes sense to post in GH as well as specific forums.

Also, thanks ethebubbeth.

Actually, they disspate about the same amount of heat now. But the P4 runs cooler in idle mode that the Athlon does. Under load, they are around the same.

Anyone now where's the best place to pickup a 92m Panaflo L1A (43cfm) to go with the Thermalright slk 900u? Also any concerns with support for RPM monitoring for this fan?

I already replied to this in the Cooling forum (again).😀

I get my rpm-monitoring 80mm and 92mm L1As from Digikey.com. Part numbers are in the other thread.

the zalman is def the way to go. It so damn quiet its amazing. Also i can get ready to upgrade to Athlon64...YAY! (currently running 2 p4 2.4C @ 3.2GHz with one Cu and one AlCu, the Cu seems to drop temps about 2-3 less, prob AlCu better cuz cheaper and way lighter)

I'm an owner of the Zalman, and if you are looking for quietness I would not just drop it off your list. If you don't know, it has a 92mm fan on it. It's the quietess Heatsink/Fan I've ever used....and it works like a charm. Normally, you suffer an increase of heat when you go quiet, but this beast (it's freaking huge and weighs a ton) but the 7000Cu I have keeps my P4 2.4C @ 3.0 GHz and 1GHz FSB below 47ºC all the time.
