Which is the best Heatsink for a P4 2.8C or 3.0C? Also, would anybody recommend adding a fan? I heard the YS-Tech 66.3CFM fan is a good choice. Here's my system below.

Motherboard: ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe
Processor: Intel P4 2.8C 800 or 3.0C-Retail
Case: Cooler Master Model# ATC-201B-BXT
Power Supply: Antec True480
RAM: Corsair XMS - 4x 512 pc-3500 w/platinum heat spreaders or regular black?
HD: 2x Raptors or 2x WDSE Raid 0, additional WDSE 4 b/u
DVD-RW: Sony DRU510A
DVD/CDRW: Samsung SM-352BRNS
Video Card:ATI AIW 9800 Pro
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum

I just had to make this exact same decision about four days ago and went with the SLK900(U). Here's why:

1)You can put whatever 80mm or 92mm fan you want on the SLK900(U). That way you can "tune" the performance of the heatsink to whatever situation you want. Another advantage of this is if the fan ever takes a dump you can just swap it out with another and be up and runnning again. With the Zalman 7000 you're stuck with the original factory fan.

2)The SLK900(U) can be securely bolted to the MoBo. This is a much better way to mount a heavy copper heatsink. The mounting procedure for the SLK900 (there's directions on Thermalrights' website) is pretty simple too. I found it easier than the procedure for the ALpha 8045 and 894w "bolt-on-to-the-mobo" heatsinks.

I've been running for two days now in the SoCal summer heat now. It's been 95°-105° here and I have no AC so it gets real hot in here. I'm using a 92mm Panaflo L1A (43cfm) to cool my 2.4C. Idle temps have been between 32°C and 38°C in these miserable temps and Prime95 load temps have ranged from 38°-50°C .

Sounds good, and we have similar situation w/ rigs and location. It is hot w/o ac. I'll take your advice and go with the Thermalright slk 900u with a 92mm Panaflo L1A (43cfm). Do you know if this heatsink will fit on the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mobo.

mounting slot on the p4 is pretty much universal, right? On thermalright's page they only list a compatibility section for athlon moboards, so you should be in the clear. slk900u with panaflo L1a would have been my dream config but i would have had to severely bend capacitors on my board to make the thing fit.

I opted for the Zalman ALCU. I'll post my results somewhere when I get the materials Monday.

Got the same thing. Right now I have 2.4C idle at 50C with AX-7 which doesn't sound too good, so hopefully this will soon change.

I have mounted both on a p4 2.4b @2.9-3.0ghz and the Zalman would cool 2-3c better unless the 92mm tornado was wide open which is just ridiculously loud. I do agree though that the thermalright's mounting system is much more secure. As far as not being able to change the fan if it goes out... How many fans lock up on you guys? I have never had this happen once in a home computer system.

Where do you recommend I get a 92m Panaflo L1A (43cfm)? Also any concerns with support for RPM monitoring for this fan?

Regular Panaflos don't have the rpm-monitoring feature but they are available with it, they're just quite hard to find. I got mine from Digikey. Search for Part No. 11043-ND. Digikey also sells 80mm L1A rpm-monitoring fans.

AX-7? are you OC the 2.4 or is it still running at 2.4?

Thanks - But they don't have that fan - any other suggestions on where to get one.

I was wondering how the ThermalTake P4 Spark7 compares to the Zalman CNPS7000-CU? Also, is the Taisol P4 Thermal Pipe cooler any good?

I am selling a brand new still in factory box SLK-900u. You can check it out here. Will save you some money compared to what the online retailers are charging...

You are right - my bad - The first time I did a search for the part number it came up with nothing, but the second time it worked? Thanks for all your help RalfHutter.
