i prefer the AlCu since it's not as heavy. Cools well, very quiet if needed.

I have the 7000a-AlCu, and I really like it. Mine is quiet at all speeds, and seems to cool my AXP 1800+ better than my old TT Volcano 6 CU (which was very LOUD).

Plus I can use it on future computer builds if I plan well.

I like the 7000-AlCu so much that I have one in my main machine, one in my gaming machine and a spare one in an unopened package, LOL. Used to have an all-copper version, using my completely unscientific methods have come to the conclusion that they perform roughly the same and the AlCu version is lighter and cheaper.

Remember you need the 7000A version if you're running a AthlonXP.

I have the 7000A-Cu and have no problem with the weight. Great silent cooler. Lets me run my mobile XP2500+ at 2.4GHz at the lowest speed :)

*winces at the memory of his TT Volcano 6 CU* Yeah, Zalman >>>>>>>>>>> TT in terms of quietness, and strangely enough, in terms of cooling too?

Are you guys using the included thermal compond or ACS5 ?

Think it would be a benefit to go with the ACS5 ?

Most people would say to go with AS5. For me, Artic Ceramique is good enough. Also, I read somewhere that stated that the AlCu cooled ever so slightly better than the Cu due to a more efficient fan. You may want to read into this (maybe on SPCR?) - and save yourself 10$ while getting a lighter, better cooler.

Stop saying that already.

There is ALREADY AN UPGRADED CU7000.

GO FOR THE CPNS7000B. Thats right, the Zalman Cu7000 "B", not the "A". You can still choose the Cu7000A since i have it and cools so good.

Sorry, but i havent seen this "B" series out on retail which is why i made the comment. I have checked Frozencpu.com, SVC.com, and Directron.com. Sidewindercomputers.com doesnt sell Zalman HSF. Nor was I able to find it on Endpcnoise.com

Do you have a link for it?

Don't forget to yank the fanmate fan controller if you overclock. You get an exta 200rpm a minute with no increase in noise.

Yup - i just got rid of the fanmate and hooked mine straight to another 5.25" bay fan controller, and even running at max speed, there isnt that much of an increase in noise.

Without a doubt, my Zalman AlCu HSF is my BEST ever hardware buy.

***HIGHLY RECOMMENDED****

Zalman CNPS-7000B

Here's the link for those who are curious.

From Zalman's website:
The 7000B has slightly improved upon the 7000A heatsink not only in performance, but in an 18g weight reduction. The 7000B comes with the easy-to-use Fan Mate 2, and even includes a high strength fiberglass reinforced plastic Backplate for use with AMD Sempron/AMD64 motherboards.

The 18g weight reduction is next to nothing since the 7000B's weight is now 755g. Asides from the new Fan Mate controller and the backplate for AMD Sempron/AMD64 motherboards it looks like it's the same. If the 7000A is cheaper and you're not running a AMD Sempron/AMD64 motherboard, then stick with the A version. Or can someone convince me elsewise? :D

I haven't seen this in retail either though...
