Hi all.

I have i7-950 CPU on Gigabyte X58A-UD3R mobo and Kingston Hyperx DDR3 memory.

Am wondering if there is no problem installing Zalman CNPS10X Extreme on this board and weather it does or doesn't interfere with chipset cooling or memory banks?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Anyway, also would welcome some advice on this setup, if I shouldn't go with some other cooler.

Thanks.

go with some other cooler. the 10X is nice but theres better coolers for the price if you just want raw performance. get one of these instead

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11...ml?id=tHaVapej 70 bucks, but its performance is unmatched except by liquid cooling systems in all the benches i have seen. definitely a step up from the zalman, and if you swap out the included fan for a pair of gentile typhoons then performance is even better, something i dont think you can do with the zalman cause they use a custom fan on it

ed: doh, sidewinder has it for $55 right now for the fanless version, save yourself some money and just get GTs for it from the get go :)

If it's Zalman only, I'd suggest the Quiet version, CNPS10X Quiet, since it cools better and it's cheaper. Review at: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1037-page6.html

I used one on a build this summer where due to time constraints had to buy local and the Zalman CNPS10X was the winner between the Extreme and a Hyper 212+

Different MB than your system, but it's not huge - slighter bigger than a hyper 212+

You can also look into H70 which is all the rage right now for good reasons. very quiet compare to air cooler and also beats the best air cooler out there.

But if you set on getting zalman, you can also consider VX or Prolimatech Megahalem. Both excellent as well. but if you are buying new, give h70 a serious look.

http://www.thermalright.com/products...d=84&cat_id=27 <--- that may be the case, but if i was the Op I would get the Zalman CPU Cooler. There is a neglegible difference between the zalman and other coolers. I am sorry raw performance is based on who is doing the review anfd the reviewers set up! before you argue with me I have been collecting heatsinks and testing and using heatsinks since 2005.....my collection stands at a little over maybe 500 different heatsinks.

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11...ml?id=tHaVapej 70 bucks, but its performance is unmatched <-- that just is not true....there are many top notch heatsinks made by Scythe and Zalaman that kick butt!!except by liquid cooling systems in all the benches i have seen. definitely a step up from the zalman -- no it`s a step sideways......sorry but it is not a step up!!

and if you swap out the included fan for a pair of gentile typhoons then performance is even better, something i dont think you can do with the zalman cause they use a custom fan on it
