I've decided to donate my i7 920 to the mathematics department at my university (they need a Sage sever they can count on...) and build myself an i7 3770K system. My 920 currently has a ZALMAN CNPS 9900 HSF. I'm assuming this will be better than the stock HSF which will come with my Ivy Bridge. If so, would it be possible (and desirable) to use the Zalman on the 3770K and use the Ivy Bridge HSF on the 920?

I'm not really planning to overclock (I have an overclocking curse), but I'd like the system to be cool and quiet.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

The stock IB heatsink is mean for LGA1155 and LGA1366 boards like your Core i7 920 will not fit, the hole spacings are way off. If you're not overclocking the IB, you might as well get the Core i7 3770 and use whatever savings from not getting the K version to get a cheap CM Hyper212 Evo or Xigmatek Gaia.
