zalman and college

Wellp I am going to OttawaU in a lil over a week. I'll be staying in residence and have a roommate. My current hsf is a beastly FOP32. It isn't annoyingly loud, but is fairly loud. I am thinking of getting a new HSF and 2 caught my eye(please make alternate suggestions if my choices are bad)

Can someone enlighten me on the performace difference(maybe a review link). I currently have an ASUS A7v333 and at sometime in the near future will be upgrading to an nforce2 mobo and a 2500+ and then o/c. So i guess my questions are; how well do those coolers work? they are really heavy, how bad is that? Anything better I should be looking into?

perfect choice, get the alcu to save money

hopefully you can find it sumwhere else for cheaper, i got for 20 dollars on sale at xoxide.

the HSF is quiet but i still have a bunch a fans that may drive my roomie insane, i'm moving in VT tomorrow😀

when i went off to college (94) we didn't have fans on our heatsinks! okay well maybe really small ones!

I have the AlCu because I was worried about the Cu version that is double Intel's spec'd weight for the mobo. I read reviews and temp differences were very negligable, sub-1C difference, so I'd go AlCu also if I were you. I run it constantly at the max fan speed (2400rpm) and it's VERY VERY quiet. I don't hear it over my case fans and I have an Antec Sonata. Great buy IMO. Then again, last year at college I had a Globalwin WBK38, hella loud, but not much worse then a dorm room mini-fridge.

Ok cool. Nobody has anything bad to say about it so I am happy.
Now, I plan on getting the 2500+ and a nforce2 mobo so i can o/c. I've read that most people can hit 11x200 with their 2500+s. First off is this true, and will the AlCu version be good enough to handle the o/cing?

Playmaker can you link me to a review of the 2 coolers? Don't go outta your way to find it, but if you know of a good review/comparison of them I'd appreciate it.

I'd get the copper if you are going to OC. The weight won't be a problem because its bolted on.

The reviews I saw showing negligable difference between the Cu and AlCu versions were in a post at www.hardforum.com. I don't remember which category, but I'm guessing Overclocking and Cooling.

Edit: Idle atm with the AlCu version with a P4 2.4C @ 3.0ghz my CPU temp is 40.5C with a mobo that uses a method that overstates the accepted standard of temp measurement by 10-12C. It's working great for me.

I'm using the Cu version and and must say its is very nice indeed. It bolts down very securely to the m/b and is far more secure than my old swiftech unit I had for my athlon.
