Zalman 9500 Flatness Problems Fixed ?

i read a review on the Zalman 9500 a while ago. it commented that the base was slightly warped. a big no-no for what was supposed to be a super high quality heatsink.

these have a thermal resistance of about .12 degrees C per watt, which is superb, one of the lowest numbers for air-cooled heat sinks.

of course, if the base is slightly warped, it's a moot point.

has any body gotten one of these lately ? is the bottom all super-flat the way it should be ?

All the Zalman flower type sinks I've had my hands on are/were dead flat.

I have not read any complaints about the 9500 having warpage issues. Links please.

Yeah, not problems with mine. In fact, other than GPU coolers, I haven't read any complaints about any of the top-tier heatsinks not being flat in at least a year.

The issue may have been with the 775 sockets, some of those have a raised area around the processor.

My Zalman 9500 is dead flat!!
I have read dozens of reviews on the 9500 none of the reviews said anything about a slightly warped base...

I remember reading the same, and even some people at "newegg" had such problem
I guess the problem was quickly solved. BTW, my 9500LED is FLAT!

I have always said that you cannot rely on the NewEgg customer comments to evaluate or to make a purchase for your computer!!

They are NOT product reviews!!

Soory link me to a reputable heatsink review such as SPCR...madshrimp....etc that mentions such a problem with the Zalman 9500!!

Newegg customer comments at best are good for reading while enjoying your morning cup of java..lol

That was just a quick link off the top of my head.

I believe it was the very first review available that also mentioned the not so flat problem!

was somebody after a link here? Zalman 9500 that took me like 5 mins to find.....

In the manufacture of the Zalman CNPS9500 LED, the heatsinks' copper base is machined flat prior to final assembly. In the unit we tested, stresses subsequently caused a very slight curve in the surface of that copper base in one axis. Given Zalman's proactive attitude towards optimizing its products, this is certainly an issue that may warrant a quick revision to its assembly line processes. The thinness of the copper base and proximity of the heatpipes to the heat source limit the overall thermal impact, but certainly a totally flat base in both axis would potentially yield better temperature results.

09.13.05 I guess the problems have been fixed since then...:roll:

i'm currently using a 9500 on my Opteron 175. i have a mild overclock, but i'm not satisfied with the temps that i'm getting. the two screws are secured tightly, but you can still rotate the HSF partly. i'm quite sure that i applied the correct amount of AS5, but my temperatures have gone up regluarly over the span of 3 weeks instead of down.

i'm thinking of lapping the base or just getting the SI-120 since you don't have to replace the retention bracket on the back side of the motherboard.

yes it is possible to change the direction it points...it can be a pita though but I have mine pointing towards the rear exhaust!!
