I was just looking up the installation instructions for the 7700cu on an asus a8v deluxe motherboard, and zalman says that due to some capacitors on the back side of the motherboard, the back plate can't be used and instead they suggest just screwing the nearly 1-kg copper behemoth down with just the two default screws that come with the board. Is this a safe workaround? I mean, can those screws and the motherboard plate take that much stress?

Hmm well I managed to install the backplate in the regular way without any problems, the plate is still flush with the back of the board, the capacitors don't seem to be in the way. I won't have a chance to see if it works until tomorrow but I'm betting it will work just fine, maybe this board is a different revision from the one that zalman used.

Heh I was wondering about that too. One reason I was considering the MSI K8T Neo2 instead...

Well, let me know how it works out. :)
