Zalman 7000B-Cu Question...

I just got my Zalman HSF and wanted to know if I HAD to run that Fanmate 2? Does it have to go though this or can I just simply use the cpu-fan plug on the M/B?

I have an AMD Althlon 64 X2 4800+ and the Asus A8N-SLI Premium M/B.

The fanmate is optional. With the fanmate, the cpu fan sometimes completely stops, so I don't use it because the mobo already has auto speed control.

That's what I thought...and the Asus will monitor and report back the speed...and if I remember right it will vary the speed of the fan as well. I might be wrong on that last part...I'm going to check when I get home

The fan is designed to run at a max 2500 RPM, Since AMD's stock cooler fan runs at much higher speed may be ur zalman fan won't suite.

Secondly, the fanmate is good, u can set 1 speed and just forget about it coz even at lowest speeds this cooler works awesome.

That fan mate isn't sexy so zalman did put it in the package for some vital purpose.

I've installed the Zalman 7000 ALCu in several machines and never use the fanmate. Connect the fan directly to the board and let the BIOS take care of controlling the fan.
