Zalman 7000b Alcu on an Abit NF7-S v2.0

As the title and summary says, can a Zalman 7000b Alcu be put into an Abit NF7-S v2.0? I've checked the Zalman site and according to their table, the Abit NF7-S is incompatible. Thing is, are they referring to the older motherboard revisions or the new v2.0?

I'd appreciate any help.

Cheers.

Mobo revisions will not change HSF mounting hole distances or HSF clamp sites. If v1.0 uses the same processor as v2.0, the Zalman will still be incompatible.

Well one of the changes to revision 2.0 of the NF7-S motherboard is the inclusion of HSF holes. Correct me if i'm wrong here, previous versions of the NF7-S did not have HSF mounting holes in the first place.

If the Zalman site/table refers to the pre revision 2.0 NF7-S motherboard then maybe the new HSF holes in v2.0 will allow the zalman to be put in?

Can anyone recommend a quiet HSF other then the Zalman for this motherboard?

Take this for what it is worth......
This is a quote from a customer review @ NewEgg.....
I have a Abit NF7 v2 board and this was a snap to put on it, although it is listed as incompatible. I just switched up the blue and the silver sides, and cut off the first hole on the retainer on the blue side. Fits like a charm and is silent. Much better as compared to the train sound of the Volcano 12 I had.
Now, to me, cutting off one of the mounting holes sounds like a really bad idea, but you could probably cut it back to the hole.

The only reason I saw this review is because like you, my son has the same board and I just ordered him a new HS/F. I was looking at the Zalman CNPS7000A.

Since I couldn't find a definate answer to your question, I wound up ordering him the ThermalRight SI-97 and Evercool 92mm Aluminum fan.
I will have to mod the sink a bit for the fan to mount properly though. Thermalright recommends using a Panaflo 92M1A, which JabTech will throw in for an additional $6.

Make sure that the heatsink won't interfere with your PSU. The NF7-S's CPU socket is VERY close to the top edge of the board and on most mid tower cases comes really close to bumping the PSU.

I am...just got me a CNPS7000A-AlCu for $29 at Fry's. I wasn't going to try because it is listed as incompatible in Zalman's website but after reading your posts I have decided to give it a try.
