Zalman 7000A-AlCu or 7000A-Cu

Good evening,

Is the Cu worth the extra few dollars? Any noticeable differences in performance? I know the AlCu is lighter, but that's about all I can extract from many reviews and forum threads.

I'm using the AlCu right now on my P4 3.2 overclocked to 3.52 and it's holding steady at 52C under full load (two instances of Folding@Home), and comes down to ~38C at idle.

I'm using the Cu right now on my p4 3.0 @ 3.4ghz and it loads at 68C and idles at 50C. My motherboard makes up temps though, so it doesn't really mean anything.

Haha that's funny Nebor. I guess I won't bother paying an extra 8 bucks if the AlCu works just fine??? Unless you guys think otherwise?

there are numerous reviews on comparing them if you google it. most are in other languages though. but the pure cu version cools slightly better (1-2 C cooler than the alcu) while the alcu runs a little hotter, but is far lighter. i guess it comes down to, if you need the best cooling regardless of anything, then the cu version would be better. if you want performance only slightly worse than the cu, but more convenience because of its light-weight, the alcu would be more suitable.

The Cu is over the accepted weight limit for AMD64 specs. Just get the alcu; they are essentially the same.

If you ever plan on moving the case dont get the pure Cu. The exceedence of amd weight spec isn't a big deal except for when your moving it around.

I'd go with the alCu just for the lighter wieght. The Cu is over P4 weight specs too, not just AMD.

My brother just got an alCu for his P4 3.2 because the intel retail hsf fan was driving him mad with its whine, even using Asus' Q-fan motherboard fan speed control. His MB is now cooler and much quieter.

I'm planning to do the same, for exactly the same reason -- I bought my P4 3.2 in December and this is my first summer with the hsf fan running on high even when not gaming, and the whine gets really annoying.
