Zalman 7000A-AlCu doesnt say anything about S939

So my parts just arrived, and the HSF doesnt say anything about Socket 939. Does it or does it not fit once and for all.

All AMD64 processors can use the same heatsinks. Same retention mechanism and everything, so it's fine.

Hey evaove, do you think once you get this installed on your 939 CPU you could let us know how good a job it does cooling it for you? I have the same HSF on my 478 P4 atm and intend on using it in a 939 system soon.

Just post in this thread or something if you can remember. 🙂

Thanks.

Do I need to take the backplate off? I need an Answer ASAP, all my parts are scattered int he living room and i'd like to get this crap done

Im aware of the flash video. I have other questions, though, do i need to take off the back plate? If i dont how owuld i install etc etc. I heard people didnt need to take off the backplate. I have an ASUS A8V

Ok well now... the screw ataching it wont freakin budge, anyone have AIM? Or any tips on how to remove the ASUS A8V backplate?

damn, the screws holding the plastic wall type thing around the CPU wont come off. Theres 2 screws, they wont budge damn it. I need to take that off for the backplate i believe

found out what its called, its the retention bracket. I think i need to take that off in order to take the blackplate off right?

Ok well i got the retention bracket off can someone please telll me if i need to take the damn Backpalte out or what. THIS IS URGENT PLEASE REPLY

Read the instructions that came with the heatsink. I would take the backplate off and use Zalman's backplate.

the Asus backplate is glued to the board be careful when getting it off, you may wish to try and heat it w/ a hair dryer or something first then apply force evenly so you don't wreck your board.

This sounds like a stupid idea, but it worked for me... I just pried it off with a screwdriver. Very slowly and gently, though.

😀 Yeah I thought I was going to break my board, but the glue comes off really easily once you get it started.

Just peck it off with a hammer........

j/k

This sounds like a big ordeal to install a HSF, is everyone having this kind of trouble or is eVaoVe freaking out a bit? I was thinking about buying one of these for myself, but if I have to have the entire AT community help put it on, my be I'll keep the stock HSF.

Mine was incredibly simple to install on a P4, but an Athlon 64 install is a bit more involved. Zalman's instructions are actually in English and are understandable enough to give you a general idea as to what the heck to do.

Is the backplate necessary? What does it actually do? I'm just going to keep it on... unless its hazardous to my system. anyone?

Have you even read the instructions from the Zalman package?

I heard from someone you don't need it. Can you just answer the question please so i can move on. IS THE BACKPLATE NECESSARY ON THE ZALMAN 7000A-ALCU HEATSINK?

There is no reason to remove the backplate that comes attached to the board. You only need the included backplate if your board did not include one.

There are only two steps to the installation.

1. Screw nipples to backplate
2. Insert screws through HSF bracket into nipples

It shouldn't take more than 2 minutes.

Obviously it is necessary for YOU to read the directions. Try doing a little of this on your own. It isn't hard to pick up the instruction manual and read it. Or even go to Zalman's website and watch the Video someone pointed out early. Don't get testy with use because you won't read on your own.

I did read the instructions, and i'm able to install it. The only thing I was unclear of was if it was NECESSARY to install the backplate.
