ok,i didn't believe him at first but i just researched it, the HT-101 is infact superior to anything on the market aside from the sp-97. i'll have to see if this heatsink fits into my case, i'd love to grab one if the price is right.

the volcano would never benifit from a larger fan due to its design, its pretty much at its peak with its stock fan.

Then they should make a new design that would benefit from a larger fan 🙂
Time to go look up the HT-101.

Alright, I read a few reviews, and it mostly seems like a mixed and/or dissapointing bag. I only read one review that was impressed with it and said it was the best cooler short of the SP97. A few others I read said its performance fell short of an SLK. It costs around $50+. I feel I'm still doing myself a favor if I buy that SLK-947U for $20. One last question. Will that 92mm Panaflo fan mentioned above be good enough? I don't mind noise at all. But, I don't want the loudest thing on the planet. On a noise level rating between 1-10, with 1 being silent, 5 being an audible hum, and 10 being a jet fighter, I can handle up to something around an 8.

heres the volcano against the 900a, both using the supplied volcano fan. the 900 is still being held back though because it should really be using a 92mm fan.

Well, it always depends on the review. The page that I usually go to for heatsink reviews is dirkvader.de. Unfortunately it's only available in German, but he does the best heatsink reviews on the net and i have already read a lot of heatsink reviews. You can use babelfish to translate this review comparing the SP-97, SLK 900A and the Volcano 12 including db(A) mesurements and four different different fans used on all the heatsinks. Using the same fan eliminates a variable and makes the heatsinks more comparable.

I don't like the fact that they used MBM screenshots in that review you posted because MBM temps always fluctuate a little (usually up to 3C sometimes 4C). Depending on when you take the screenshots the outcome can be quiet different. It's better to use MBM's log function and then take the average of the recorded values.

thanks for the heads up on SVC....wouldn't you know it, I just ordered some other stuff from there about 3 days ago.

I found a solution (sort of).. I put the zalman on a NF7-s in a Sonata case...it fit barely.

So for now I have a the 2600M being cooled by the slk and panaflow that was in the other rig. I'm slowly increasing the speed but for now its 203x11 with the temp ~ 33-34...so we'll see how it goes.

Two other quick questions on this board?
What should I lock the AGP bus at ? (66?)
and what setting for the FSB to DRAM ratio (1:1?)

both are on "auto" now...

Thanks again

Yes, you should try to run your ram at a 1:1 ratio if at all possible, for best performance on your system. What board are you using that doesn't have a PCI/AGP lock? In the place of a lock, it is at 66, yes.
