Im thinking of buying a zalman for my a64 3000+ on a neo4 so heres my q:

The 7000Cu doesnt come with a backplate...does that matter? I can get this for 30.99 at zzf.

My alternative is a 7000B AlCu for 28.99 at amazon

What do you guys think?

But thats the B version. Im wondering about the 7000 (vanilla?). Oh well, ill just play it safe and get B.

I ordered a vanilla 7000 Cu from Amazon and yes, it includes NO backplate, plus it contained a fanmate1 instead of 2. Fanmate 2 is better as the wire length is much longer allowing mounting of the controller outside the case. The B version is probably worth it in your case, I didn't need it as I use a socket 478 P4 where a backplate is not required.

Good comparison review here of the Cu and AlCu: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article92-page1.html

The AlCu seems to perform just as well, the Amazon deal is a good one for the AlCu.

i got the 7000cu-B for my amd64 3000+ from amazon, and it is a great cooler. i got the 7000 over the 7700 because it is quieter than the larger ones cools only SLIGHTLY less. it came with a back plate and fanmate 2. as was said by mucker, the fan mate 2 is good and has a very long cord, i have mine mounted on the back of my case. go for the 7000b at amazon.

you're just as well off, better imo, with the alcu. cools just as well, about 1/2 the weight and last i checked a good deal cheaper.

also, if i'm not mistaken, the a and b version is just basically a different fan mate. i have the 7000a hooked up to a 3-1/2" fan controller. hardly ever have to turn it up anyway.
