btw when you talk about Dawn, is that just the dishwashing soap? or a car washing product with the same name? 😕
Dishwashing soap. You want to get the BLUE colored one, not any other 🙂

Wow! Zaino sounds interested. I might give it a try. Basically you'll need to get Z-2, Z-5 and the Bar is this correct?

I heard about zaino from another forums, it seems like they are the best in the world and no one argue with it, but I bought 3 package of zymos wax & detail from costco clearance for $7, I think I will wait I finish all 3 bottles before I try zaino.

Another satisfied Zaino customer/user here. Tried it as a suggestion from a friend earlier this year on my girlfriend's black Celica. By the time I was completely done, it was the wettest I had seen any black car look - ever. I did basically the full process (wash with Dawn, claybar, wash with Z7, Z1, 3 coats of Z5 with a layer of Z6 in between each, then the following weekend I did 2 coats of Z2 with Z6 in between and on top) and it looked absolutely amazing.

Had noticeably less swirl marks and spidering after the 3 coats of Z5 too. You can still see them in certain areas if you look, but it's near impossible to hide them all on a black car. That was 3 or 4 months ago, today it still looks just as good after a washing with Z7 and a layer of Z6.

Hrm, this stuff sounds interesting...

/wonders if I can buy it in the UK

I'm getting a 1967 Ford Anglia 105E (the "Harry Potter car") next weekend which I am doing up, and am thinking of a nice deep black paint job...now looks like i'll need some of this stuff to keep it looking good!

Confused

Looks great, but what about swirl marks, etc.? Did you not have any?
I kinda lucked out with the swirl marks. When I bought the car I took immediate delivery so I guess the dealer didn't have enough time to dress up the car. Good thing because a lot of times they use a powered buffer. Never, never, never! Always hand wax a car.

If you have some swirl marks, Zaino makes a polish called Z5 that will slowly work them out. Obviously if you have a dark color you may never get the marks out.

I use a powered orbital buffer (Porter Cable 7336) all the time without issue. You'd have to do some seriously stupid things to cause damage with an orbital buffer like the PC. All of the high-quality polishes have a diminishing abrassive in them that require the heat generated from the buffer in order to work properly, unless of course you can get your hand going about 3k RPM.

The Z5 isn't effective in actually removing the swirls, only filling them and making them less noticeable. Generally people apply Z5 in between layers to get rid of micromarring. You'd need a real polish and something like an orbital buffer to actually *remove* swirl marks. It would take some serious effort to hurt your clearcoat, and the result is an absolutely perfect finish.

My favorite polishes would be: 3M's PI-III Machine Glaze, 3M's Swirl Mark Remover (has fillers), Meguiar's Swirl Mark Remover, Meguiar's Dual-Action Cleaner/Polisher, and Menzerna Intensive/Final Polish.

And I can buff out wax on my car with a buffer using my microfiber bonnet 🙂
