ZA Pro....anyone have any opinions

Anybody have any opinions on Zone Alarm Pro?

I've been using it for years, but it has recently started interfering with Windows
and would not allow me to run chkdsk until I uninstalled ZA.

Any thoughts?

I have never used the pro version, but everyone I know including myself has had other issues with zone alarm. Mainly randomly loosing internet connection and not being able to regain access without rebooting.

I've NEVER heard of anybody losing their internet connection due to ZA. And being curious as to how common a problem it is, i did a search for it, and didn't even find a single instance of it. So if it does happen, it's not that common.

i have been using zone alarm pro for a few years and have had no problem. if you pay attention and configure it properly it is a lifesaver. the only problem i have ever had is windows messenger file transfers and remote assistance but you just close it for that. if you are not able to do a checkdisk that is something that zl is totaly incapable of stopping there must have been some strange conflict "you know how windows gets".

I haven't had any issues, except possibly with NFS: U online play (keep losing connection for some reason)
Works perfectly with my router and everything I can throw at it, AFAIK.

Back in '99 when broadband became available in my area I downloaded and installed ZA, I figured a firewall was a must have with a cable connection. Many friends and coworkers did the same. All of us experience this same problem of a lost connection. Sometimes you could regain the connection by closing ZA and doing a release/renew, sometimes you couldn't. I switched to Kerio and haven't tried ZA since then. The issue may very well have been fixed since then, I have had no reason to switch back as I found kerio to be superior in terms of memory usage, ect.

Where exactly did you search for instances of this happening?

etc, etc.

Z/A Pro won't interfere with ChkDsk. But - that program for fancy Windows trimmings called StyleXP sure as heck will. Why do you assume it is ZAP? I run it all the time and never have CHKDSK problem - but I learned that StyleXP was the culprit from ZA Tech Support. I turned it off and never had another problem.

Because I uninstalled ZA after repeated tries at chkdsk and once uninstalled chkdsk ran without a hitch.
When I was done, I reinstalled ZAP.
Contacted ZA directly regarding this, and they recommended shutting down ZA prior to a chkdsk scan.
Also encountered other users that experienced the exact same problem and targeted the culprit as ZA.
Otherwise, I think it's a great program and have not had the connection issues mentioned above.
