Z97 extreme 6 pcie question

Are PCIe #'s 2 and 4 x 16 if either is used by a single card? I keep seeing builds where people are using the middle slot and reading that it is also X16. can anyone confirm that as it would make for some better air movement in my system.

Thanks!!

Pages 2 and 22 in your manual explain the PCIe slots on your motherboard, and their speed and options.

To quickly sum it up, you get 16x if you have one video card in either PCIe x16 #2 or #4. If you use more than video card, you are going to be at 8x. However, 8x is not really much of a limitation on current GPUs. So if you need cooler temps, you can move it and still be at 16x if only using one video card.

AWESOME....I only use a single card and this is great news 🙂

Even if you add another in the future for SLI/Crossfire, them dropping down to 8X won't really hurt your experience any. Although, multiple GPUs aren't really needed much any more, and that's even if the game developer took the time to add multi-card support. The experience ain't what it used to be. 🙂
