My nephew badly needed an 1150 board and I recently came across a great deal on a $60 AsRock Z97 Extreme4 that looked like it had the same layout as my AsRock Z87 Extreme4. I didn't have much time and sent him my older Z87 before I could even unpack my new Z97, so I was greatly disappointed to see that two of the USB3.x ports and two of the USB2.0 ports have been moved to rear I/O. Those two headers made the Z87 a much better fit for my particular system, but I don't want to go back to the Z87 if another Z97 board has all this.
Can anyone suggest a Z97 board with three USB2.0 FP headers and two USB3.x FP headers?
The long story:
The AsRock Z87 Extreme4 was perfect for my modernized Cooler Master CM Stacker STC-T01 case (positively ancient). I gutted the top PSU bay and replaced the top 80mm blowhole with a 3x120mm radiator, replaced the 80mm side panel fan with a 250mm fan in the original 300mm grill, and abused the BTX convertibility to flip the motherboard (still required some nibbling).
That board fit like a glove because, unlike any board available back when this case launched, it happened to have headers for all 6 of the case's front panel USB2.0 ports. It also had two USB3.x headers for my 3.5" bay-mounted Silverstone HD Audio thing that also added four USB3.x ports and modernized the case further (case originally only supported AC97 audio header). Sweet! Unfortunately, things got bittersweet after upgrading to the board's direct successor: the Z97 Extreme4. I know this shouldn't bother me, but it kinda does. I really don't want to use hubs or block off USB ports.
