If you have the same board, does yours also behave this way?

After much troubleshooting, I've narrowed it down to this: My system will not stay asleep as long as the cat5 network cord is connected.

- In UEFI setup, "Wake From Onboard LAN 1" is disabled.

- If I try to put the system to sleep while the cat5 network cord is connected, it wakes up soon after (anywhere from 1 to 15 seconds).

- If I unplug the cat5 network cord before putting the system to sleep, it stays asleep until I deliberately wake it or reconnect the cat5 cable.

What happens if you plug the Ethernet cable in, but unplug everything else from the switch? Alternatively, try connecting the Ethernet cable back-to-back with another device.

The goal is to determine whether or not the physical act of having something plugged in wakes the computer up, or if there's something on the network that's doing it.

This is an extremely common problem.

First thing to do is to make sure that under device manager, the "Allow this device to wake the computer from sleep" option is not checked for your network adapter.

The second is to go into the Power Options control panel, and under the Sleep settings disable "Wake Timers".

Well, sometime between the time I started this thread and the first reply, it started working. I don't know what's up with that. I had restarted and shut down many many times.

I remotely access my PC all the time and want to make sure I can send a WOL packet to wake the system; so I didn't want to change that option in the device manager.

How are you trying to send a WOL packet? Maybe that is malfunctioning (or worse, open to the Internet).

I haven't done WOL at all for this new build. I used to use a mobile VNC/RDC app that would send it automatically when I attempt to connect. I had a router with Tomoato firmware that would allow me to log-in remotely and select a LAN device to send a WOL packet to. I don't think I can do that with my current router (Apple AirPort Extreme 5th gen).
