Z87 Motherboards and NVMe Support

Is there a way to use NVMe (for boot drive) on motherboards with Z87 chipsets?
Unofficial BIOS or something?
I own a Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3.

short answer: NO

longer answer: Not really, cause the chipset/bios doesn't support it.

even longer answer: Z97 is a maybe, depending on mobo brand/bios and the drive itself, but even then only with Windows 10 installed....

This is just one more reason I have moved up to z170 & a samsung 950Pro

It's possible if you add the right drivers to the uefi boot shell, there are guides for how to do this available.

The modded BIOS flashed without issues.
The only thing that remains is to buy an M.2 SSD and test if works.
Thinking about Samsung 960 EVO 256GB or waiting until the next generation with 64 layer TLC NAND comes out.
