It seems to me that there is a serious dearth of choices in mATX Z87 motherboards available, especially ones that support SLI. PCPartpicker only lists the following four:

  • ASRock Z87M Extreme4
  • Asus GRYPHON Z87
  • Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5
  • Gigabyte GA-Z87MX-D3H

Then there is the Gene which is not widely available and the announced ASRock Z87M OC. I'm leaning toward one of these two choices, since the Gryphon (beige) and the Sniper's (lime green) color schemes look awful to me and the other two aren't that feature rich.

What I'd really like is for Asus to release a Z87M-Pro or -Deluxe with the gold trim of their mainstream ATX line. The current Z87M-Plus doesn't support SLI which is a big minus for me.

Do you guys have any thoughts / knowledge on this?

The Gene as you noted ... it will be out soon. It has everything you could want.

I have the Gigabyte D3H and it seems fine. I don't use SLI, though.

Summer is when the new matx mobos generally arrive if we look at recent past years. Usually around August/September when people are going back to school and such. Watch for them then that is what I'd do if building a new SFF rig and had the time and paitence to wait.
